Thank you all for your kind welcome! Tonight I have my second tip test. Sheesh, one of these days I'll be a yellow belt! LOL ... Illona> Response: Actually, it is a correct assumption that the school owner obtains from the parent a school fee. The school fee then helps the school owner pay for cost of studio, overhead, utilities, and so forth. Hence, it is a parent's hard earned pay check helping a respective Dojang owner to stay in business. The analysis is not that hard to follow. I pay a Martial Arts Instructor a fee for martial arts instruction. The instructor provides a service. I pay for the service. This is a private arrangement. Since I am not being taxed by the local government for this purely private contractual arrangement, I will decide the parameters that extend out of "martial arts" instruction. If the martial arts instructor wants to step beyond the contractual arrangement and venture into other areas, I will work with that instructor to determine if that is where my money will go. In contrast, I will not be told that I must adhere to any policy that I believe violates privacy issues, parental roles, community social worker roles, guidance counselor roles, or Mother Theresa "feel good" activities. In contrast, when receiving tickets from cops I usually don't argue since that battle is hardly won. Also, I realize that my taxes do go to pay for police services. In sum, in a private contract there is an offer, consideration, and acceptance. I choose to accept or reject whether your role extends to governing my child's educational process. Unfortunately, other parents have relinquished their choices. Ken McD... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! Here are the two sites which, I believe, contain World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) sparring rules. Http://infoweb.magi.com/~tkdspar/ Http://shore.net/~jmont/wtf_rules/ Mitar P. S. Since there is a thread going about MA instructors interfering in children's personal life or not, I would just like to say that I'm personaly against it, unless it is agreed with the student's parents and the student himself. I won't go into details, because some other Dojang_Digest members that have the same viewpoint as I do have already explained it more than well enough (Mr McDonough, Mr Groff, Mr Bernat, etc., etc., etc.). I do have a question for those who have the opposite opinion on this. In what child's age do you stop to act like their supervisor? Do you require report cards from the elementary school children, secondary school children, university students? Maybe all of them? If you don't require it from any of these categories, please tell me why not. Just don't say that you don't require it from the faculty students only, because they are old enough to take care of themselves. Younger children have their parents who take care of them, so if you use this as argument, it's not good enough. ------------------------------ From: "John Groff" Date: Wed, 29 Mar 2000 17:37:26 -0800 Subject: the_dojang: Jest to clareefai Howdy Ray, When I said: "Censorship: It sucks, plain & simple no matter who does it. Editing anything with intent to manipulate a writer's original opinion is rude, tacky, & misleading. However it is a good idea to make sure it is really censorship (done with intent) & not an editor's posting mistake or unintentional omission." I didn't mean to imply this list. I was being general in response to JR West & wife's comments about having been censored on another list. I've always liked the fact that this list tolerates all sorts of people and ideas. This is what stimulates growth and banishes misinformation.
