There is still one other group missing, that is, the ones that weren't back from lunch yet. All in all, I estimate that 50 people are not visible, or just plain not there....JRWest ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Sat, 08 Apr 2000 12:14:01 -0700 Subject: the_dojang: ATAMA National Karate Tournament American Teachers Association of the Martial Arts ATAMA PO Box 1125 Redwood City, California 94064-1125 ATAMA National Karate Tournament Sunday, May 7, 2000 West Valley College 14000 Fruitvale Ave Saratoga, California Registration: 8-9AM For more info contact Prof. Harry Sherman, Jr. 650-365-2429 or Master Professor Ramiro Jack Long 650-306-9083 email presatama@aol.com Ray Terry ------------------------------ From: ABurrese@aol.com Date: Sat, 8 Apr 2000 15:15:21 EDT Subject: the_dojang: Gun toting granny I did not verify if this was true, but it was passed on to me by a fellow martial artist and author. - Alain MELBOURNE, Australia -- Gun-toting granny Ava Estelle, 81, was so ticked-off when two thugs raped her 18-year-old granddaughter that she tracked the unsuspecting ex-cons down - - and shot their testicles off! "The old lady spent a week hunting those bums down -- and when she found them, she took revenge on them in her own special way," said admiring Melbourne police investigator Evan Delp. Personally? I don't practice OS TKD, and prefer controlled sparring w minimal equipment. 2) Do you think sport is good or bad for martial arts? (Be sure to provide your reasons) Sport is just another facet to the jewel that is martial arts (eww, that came out rather corny). So, good. 3) What do you think about meditation (proper breathing) being taught in the dojang? Is it taught in your school? It isn't as useful as what I learned about breathing in other common sports. - --Chaney ------------------------------ From: "Brian Dean" Date: Sat, 8 Apr 2000 19:21:11 -0500 Subject: the_dojang: stretching? To Dojang Digest, I recently found this site and I have a question that has bothered me since beginning martial arts. I have learned Tae Kwon Do in Canada and in Korea. While in Korea I also studied Hai Dong Gum Do in Korea. The instructors in Korea behaved very differently from the Canadian instructor regarding stretching techniques. In Korea the students were often encouraged and almost forced to overstretch. Students were pulled or pushed into positions that were very painful. I have been taught, as a nationally certified coach, that overstretching tears muscles and tendon and the scarring can reduce flexibility. On the other hand, many Koreans are very flexible and do not appear injured. What accounts for this difference? Can anyone explain the theory behind Korean stretching principles? Thank you, Brian Dean ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Sat, 08 Apr 2000 16:33:56 -0700 Subject: the_dojang: ------------------------------ End of The_Dojang-Digest V7 #230 ******************************** It's a great day for Taekwondo!
