Nor is it a technique book. There isn't a picture in it. What it is though, is a book about real fights and violence based on actual confrontations. Yes, it has chapters with advice on how to win or survive a fight you are in, but it also has chapters about other things such as avoidance, etc. You can learn more about it at the site below. You can get it directly from Alain or from Paladin Press at www.paladin-press.com My wife and I have watched it many times and have been practicing the techniques presented. Cool stuff and well done. - ---begin quoted message--- From: b.lambert@juno.com I am interested in purchasing some books on Hapkido. I have seen some books on forms, and different books on techniques. Any suggestions regarding purchasing good hapkido material? To begin with, >>to the best of my knowledge, there are no forms in Hapkido being a sool >>(technique) based training method. It depends on who you learn HKD from. The school I trained at in Kangnung, Korea teaches forms. This school is under the Korea Hapkido Federation. I still practice and teach those forms, since I need to know them when I go back to Korea. (next trip should be next Jan) I know other HKD organizations teach forms as well, but then some do not. So it is not really correct to say HKD has no forms. Some branches do, some don't. Listen to your body as you progress and resist the temptation to make rapid progress. Remember the people who condition their fingers for years to do spearhand strikes through boards, only to try too early and break their fingers.... I can recommend his video, and also the Legendary Abs II from the Health for Life company. Sports physiology can be martial science (IMHO). She had my instructor in Kangnung get them for me. I would be able to pick up more sets next January when I go over if people were interested and save the overseas shipping. There are others on the list that will be going to Korea before I do though. But the offer will be open my next trip. From: "Neal Konecky" Date: Sun, 09 Apr 2000 04:06:17 GMT <<>> Well Neal, you asked I'm 40, nope 41 now. (I keep trying to forget that last birthday)I started ITF style TKD 7 months ago. I told myself I started to help my son. He's 6 years old and was being picked on at school. Despite what that begins to sound like, I didn't start him so he could defend himself, but rather to give him more confidence so that perhaps he wouldn't have to defend himself. It worked. That aside, I think now I started him off not only for his enjoyment and to build his own confidence, but also as an excuse to have a go myself. Why? Hmmm ... I was pretty much out of condition, horribly inflexible ... but I think it was more than just getting back into shape, I think it was a way for me to measure me in terms of thought, action, deed. More over it was a way to have a measure of me going forward. (Perhaps mid life crisis meets eastern philosophy?) By the way, the flexibility is much better but will never be great. Too many bones and joints set in their ways now. The shape is getting there. I think I spotted a stomach muscle the other day. Oh and now, not only is my son enjoying the experience, so are both my daughters, 8 and 11. Hope this helps you in your quest.
