Actually it will be held at Global HapKiDo in Hampstead, MD, just a little south of Gettysburg, PA. If anyone is in the area, please drop by and introduce yourself, and if you have nothing to do for a day, come and play with us. I know Ken McD will be there as well as a few other list members, and I wlways enjoy putting faces to the names. If you would like more information, feel free to contact me, or Mr. Joe Borucki at globalhapkido@hotmail.com . Hey Ken, how about a recommendation...JRWest www.hapkido.com ------------------------------ From: "Silke Schulz" Date: Mon, 17 Apr 2000 15:09:40 -0700 Subject: the_dojang: Re: The_Dojang-Digest V7 #253 Ken McD wrote: >Response: Nice hypothetical. On the one hand, life is often not as simplistic as my scenario, but then on the other hand, life isn't always as complicated as the scenario you describe below, either. Any scenario, whether simple or complicated has to be responded to with common sense. Based on the information I read in the scenario I responded to, this was, IMHO, the most sensible approach to the situation. The situation you describe below is a tad more complicated based on the information you provide. Maybe I missed something from the original post because I responded in the middle of this thread. >Scenario. I am driving down the highway on a nice Sacramento day. The Ford >pickup with the gun rack in the back wants on to the highway. I can't let >him in since he is parallel to me. So, he gets on the highway and fingers >me. I ignore him. He pursues me. Nutcase in Ford pickup is now >getting of his car and approaching my vehicle ? Gee, I can't go anywhere. First of all, I'm not certain I would have gotten off at my exit if this joker had started pursue me. I might have gone on a while to see if he settled down and got bored with the chase. I can always double back. I think it would be safer to keep moving, and if he didn't bored, you could still use the cell phone to call for help while you're still in motion on the freeway. Ok. So you didn't do that. Is he still carrying the baseball bat? Or is he carrying the gun from the back of his truck? If I can get out the passenger side door easily enough...I do so and run cell phone in hand. Creating as much commotion at the intersection as possible to attract attention. >By the time I use my cellular he has me by the short hairs, so what do I >do ? Now, I am thinking "Gosh, I should have had a V-8 today or I should >have carried my flashlight or cane...." Panic and stress is setting in. How about using the car door as a weapon? >You call the Play !(P.S. Please dont tell me to drive away or the above >does not occur). Ok. I won't (but the odds would seem to be against it happening...). I grant you I'm still learning about a lot of this stuff, but it seems to me that if you can avoid getting into a slugfest (regardless of what you've put in your car to use as a weapon), that should be the first priority. But then as a woman, even with martial arts training, I'm certainly NOT going to try to pit my cane/Kellight/tire iron/weapon du jour against some maniac with a baseball bat. :-) Silke ------------------------------ End of The_Dojang-Digest V7 #254 ******************************** It's a great day for Taekwondo!
