Frank Sine wave is the motion developed by Gen. Choi Hong Hi used to generate power. It has also been called spring style or knee spring. Here is the theory (as I understand it). 1. Every movement, with few exceptions, begins with a slight backward motion. 2. At the same time, the knees bend causing the level of the eyes to drop slightly. 3. As the motion continues forward the hands move to an intermediate hand postion (depending on the technique involved). 4. As the motion continues forward the level of the eyes raises above the starting point. The knees are almost locked. 5. As the forward motions finishes (at the moment of impact) the level of the eyes and the knees return to the starting height. 6. As the techinque is completed the movement of eyes, hands, and feet, is completed at the same time. In addition the outward breath is also completed. 7. The motions is named after the mathmatical princible as demonstrated by the graph below. * * * -----*--------*-------------*--- * * * There is a great deal more to sine wave motion but it is very hard to descripe in writing. The best was is to see a good practionary demonstrate the motion in patterns. Agreed, but I don't get your point. > Moreover, many incidents occur when your at a stop and some >individual is in your face while you are at the wheel. Now what if Grandma >Jones is in front of you and your sandwiched? Am I sandwiched between Grandma Jones and the perp's vehicle? In that case I put my car in reverse and back up into the perp's vehicle, and after having made room I drive around Grandma Jones and away. Hopefully I punctured/split his radiator and he won't be able to follow me for long. If the perp is to one side or the other, and backing into the person behind me would make room to get away, then I do that. If I survive the encounter I will later make amends to the person I backed into. If I'm completely boxed in then I exit the vehicle out the opposite side, yelling for other's to call the police (I don't own a cellular phone yet), and try to run away on foot. If it looks like I'm going to lose the foot race then I try to pick a place of my choosing to defend myself physically and pray I can hit him before he hits me. If you find yourself think, "What if?" then I suggest answering your own question. What if you found yourself in the above situation? What would *you* do? > The perp usually has these >things figured out Perps usually take advantage of opportunities. The best defense against such people is to not present them with opportunities, or to minimize their opportunities. I minimize opportunities by trying to be aware of the people around me, trying to treat everyone around me with respect and courtesy, not allowing strangers in my car or in my house, not taking walks through downtown allies at night, locking my doors at night, turning on outside security lights at night, etc. There will always be people who will attack other people despite any and all precautions taken. I hope I never encounter one of these people. If I do, then I'm just going to do the best that I can to defend myself. I may fail and be killed. I may succeed and live. But I'm not going to waste my life worrying unavoidable situations. >There may not be complete solutions,,,just possible >alternatives. Again, I have no idea where you're going with this statement. Alternatives are what you have prior to making a decision. A complete solution is what you may end up with after making a decision. I didn't intend to present a solution to a hypothetical situation, merely an example of a vehicle being used as a weapon to defend oneself. And I was trying to make the point that a person in control of a vehicle is armed with a potentially lethal weapon. I used the example with the intention of showing that even if an attacker is in your vehicle with you, you still have a weapon that you may be able to use against your attacker. > Also, I am not certain that I would want to damage my 1978 >CJ-7 Jeep I spent 7 years restoring. Master West asked: < Hey Ken, how about a recommendation...JRWest www.hapkido.com> Response: I think Master West's seminar will be a good way to spend a nice Spring day in Maryland area. Do not let the Mastery of Master West scare you away. His seminar is apparently designed for all levels of Martial Artists. Case in point, I am a middle aged guy who has been out of the Hapkido loop for several years. So, I am not a "Hapkido Player" in the true sense of the word. Certainly there are martial artists on this list who are significantly better performers than me. However, do not let that bother you. Just be yourself and have a nice day trying to learn a few techniques from a Master who has been in the thick of things for a long time. Cheers, McD... P.S. I have received no under the table payments for the above endorsement. However, gratuities are gratefully accepted. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
