He mentioned the pole theory. However, I like Master West's correction and improvement. Makes a lot of sense. I am waiting for Master West's video series. Now that would be a winner ! I will stick with the freeweights and use the gym for the machine type equipment. Spend the $1200 (when available) on the 57 Chevy Belair. Anyway, I received a catalog in the mail yesterday entitled, "Living Arts". Web site is http://www.gaiam.com Has a lot of relaxation and meditation type videos, exercises, and breathing technique information. A little pricey but currently a 20% off sale. I have purchased several of the yoga and chi videos at the local Target for $6.00. These are great videos when you are up in the morning and want to follow a nice relaxing meditative exercise. Then into the more demanding stuff. Also a nice way to relax prior to going to sleep. Try the PM Chi video. Short and sweet. Ken McD... P.S. Contrary to my own imposed persona, I am not totally a beer swiggin', women chasin, lascivious slime ball. I do have some feelings. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I will be teaching a course in Underwater Self Defense (how to fight off someone trying to drown you - intentionally, or someone drowning and panicking who you are trying to save). We developed this course with some Ju Jutsu grapplers, Navy Seal Trainers, lifeguards and a handful of police and martial artists. Everyone has to jump in the pool and go at it with all their street clothes on. :) This is my first year, and I am looking forward to it. But I am very excited about the AWSDA conference to be held in Seattle in August. I'm teaching "Offensive Knife" there. Since that's a bit closer to you, think you'll make it? But I have yet to see a _TaeKwon-Do_ (or related system) fighter actually use a classical, technically correct, forward/walking stance while _sparring_. Maybe in some Chinese systems they actuall spar from them; I've never seen it. I use the front stance and see others using the front stance in free-sparring. The most common point where you see this is after breaching your opponents defense and executing a reverse punch. Imagine you just invaded your opponents territory with a high left side shuffle side kick as you re-chamber and land you do a left outside block to clear any resistance that may remain. Now in a very classical move the lead foot (left) shifts outward leaving you in a very powerful stance for a reverse punch to your opponents ribs. Or another way to think of the pole idea is to place this imaginary pole coming up out of either foot, not the spine. That way when you pivot (or blade your body) on a particular foot/pole you are arcing your center line off target (assuming your beer belly isn't too big :).
