True there are many conditions which would make such a defense not really safe. Incidentally, high kickcing can lead you to another problem... in my state kicking to the head is considered deadly force. It's easy to throw a seminar about almost anything when all you have to do is pick up the phone and you can find a local expert in just about any imagineable fighting art. I have the space... they have the expertise... we throw a seminar... I learn a lot. But if you can make it to AWSDA, you will *not* be disappointed. The instructors there are some of the best in the world. And you will get the chance to train with guns, knives, and whatever else is offered. We usually train from 8AM til 9PM each day and then go out for dinner. And that's when the fun really begins. No one knows how to party like the AWSDA crowd. :) Meghan Gardner Guard Up, Inc. www.GuardUp.com "Carry love in your heart and a knife in your pocket at all times." me ------------------------------ From: "Jim Griffin" Date: Thu, 01 Jun 2000 22:45:40 EDT Subject: the_dojang: Re: Looking For Nutrition Advice For My Black Belt Weekend I'm partial to the MetRx bars (the cookie dough one is fairly tasty). Martial Arts" Date: Fri, 02 Jun 2000 01:39:05 PDT Subject: the_dojang: re:food The name of the game in nutrition is BALANCE. Your body works best if you eat balanced especially a long period such as a day or week end. If you boost on too much sugar your sugar levels will go up sure (for a bit) then your body releases Insulin to bring down the glucose level, causing a down that most people relieve by eating more sugar sending their body through the same cycle again. So sugar (and carb loading) works when you need extra energy over a short period of time. It is a much better idea to keep your snacks balanced. Fruits/veggies are better than chocolate bars as the sugar is absorbed slower. BUT you should balance it with protein. Many power bars have protein in them, as well as soy protein. (one if the more complete kinds of protein.) Drink lots of water, you can not produce the energy without being hydrated. Stay away from what I call "useless" snacks such as rice cakes they are like pure sugar to your body and no nutritional value. Creatine is not very useful on a one shot deal, but it will not hurt anything. It is important to eat though, many people get the black bet gitters and don't eat throughout the weekend and don't perform at peek levels because their mind and body can't. Most of all have fun, you have worked hard for this time. It will be one of the most rewarding times of your life and you will never experience it again:) ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ From: Ken McDonough Date: Fri, 2 Jun 2000 06:07:53 -0700 (PDT) Subject: the_dojang: Martial Arts School Owners= good source for martial arts equipment... This post is to those martial arts school owners who may be interested in picking up new and used martial arts equipment at a good price. My former Tang Soo Do school, co-located with a Jazz Dance School, went out of business last year. The instructor was uncertain if he was going to open up another school. The instructor was a student of Master Wickham who at one time had the largest Tang Soo Do school in Frederick, Maryland (400). Master Wickham left teaching martial arts to go into the Civil War Hat Making Business (he is near Gettysburg, PA). The equipment has been sitting in the warehouse. Occasionally I would call the manager of the school and ask if he was selling any equipment. Yesterday I met the manager and he let me take equipment items at a great price. The remainder of the inventory is ideal for a martial arts school. Includes striking mitts and bags, bos, sticks, equipment. If interested, contact me privately and I will give you the number and name of the person to contact. If you make a total package price offer you will get a good deal. Tip for the day.
