I passed a post along from DD along to fellow instructors and friends in my federation. Thinking this underwater self-defense class would be a way to spice up summer activity. One of them e-mailed me back asking how much extra is the insurance company going to ask for if they did this? He also asked what if something goes wrong? It shouldn't cost any more than it is now. The suggestion was for a class in the swimming pool not a seminar. Would insurance companies freak out if we did this? After all, it is the same risk as we are taking in the do-jang. You'll be doing Taekwondo for a long time after you stop being able to or want to play softball. There's a whole different social climate in softball that is good to be a part of, just as it should be an important part of Taekwondo. Just my 2cents. You need an open parking lot, 2 cars to 'stage' an accident, 1 or more angry morons (who caused the accident)....without insurance info of course, cars to represent blocked traffic(they are running (for the fumes), but in park), with occupants who add to the stress by honking and yelling out windows. The badguys try everything from extortion to fighting to get out of the situation. Your job is to resolve the situation, and if it turns violent and the badguys try to run, you are to gather enough information about them to give a good description to police----when they arrive.(clothing, height, weight, how many, car, type, color, plate# etc) The fighting is the easy part....getting accurate info about crimes that just happened to you (assault, hit and run etc.) is much harder, and it teaches tactical thinking under stress. >> good one, mark. you too, illona. a few years ago, we used to hear warnings about a particular type of crime which is a combo of your two ideas. car stops at a stop sign in front of you. car pulls up behind you. both occupants of these cars are working together to trap you. you cant move your car forwards or back. whaddoya do? same scenario, but the guy in front rolls back, tapping your bumper. or, the other guy taps your bumper from behind. seeming to be a normal fender bender, you hop out of the car to exchange info....big mistake. mark's accident scenario happens, but it's intentional, with illona's criminal intent auto scenario. melinda Chajonshim Martial Arts Supply http://www.chajonshim.com ------------------------------ From: ChunjiDo@aol.com Date: Sat, 3 Jun 2000 00:07:13 EDT Subject: the_dojang: Re: john's bb test In a message dated 6/1/00 4:40:48 PM Pacific Daylight Time, the_dojang-owner@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com writes: << John, I would throw in a Snickers bar too. Nonetheless, I am looking for two discrete pieces of information: 1.) Why was the pattern Ko-Dang removed from the ITF curriculum? (i.e. What was wrong with it?) 2.) Why was Ju-Che added (i.e. What made this so much better than Ko-Dang?) If you could please point me to a URL or give me your own input into this matter it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
