Take care Todd ------------------------------ From: Jesse Segovia Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 16:30:35 -0400 Subject: the_dojang: Taekwondo on NPR Over the last several days I've caught two mentions of Olympic Taekwondo on National Public Radio. A few days ago I caught the end of a brief spot on Olympic style Taekwondo featuring an interview with athlete Barbara Kunkel and coach Han Lee. Kunkel made the comment, heard on Coach Lee's video tapes, that the spinning heel kick is a 'lottery kick.' Just like the lottery, it's hard to win with it but when you do, you win big! Then yesterday, I caught the last few minutes or so of Talk of the Nation, which seemed to be about Olympic sports in general. TKD great Juan Moreno was being interviewed, along with athletes of different Olympic sports. Did anyone catch these two spots? I'm especially interested in what Juan had to say in Talk of the Nation. Ray - ----------------------------------------------------------- The East Asia Library at the University of Washington purchased 2,000 volumes of 3000 volume-set of "Hanguk yoktae munjip chongso" published by Kyongin Munhwasa in Seoul and the remaining 1,000 volumes were ordered. "Hanguk Yoktae Munjip Chongso" (Collected works of Korean authors from the 10th to the early 20th century) is a reprint edition in 3,000 volumes of the collected works of over a thousand individual authors mostly from Koryo and Choson Dynasties (10th-20th century). (For further explanation, please check "Special Collections" section of Korean Studies Page. (http://www.lib.washington.edu/East-asia/korea/koreapg.html#special) Throughout this collection, some authors appear in more than one volume while others share a single volume with several authors and it was necessary to compile an author/title index for the set under which searches can be conducted. An author/title index of 3,261 entries (http:www.lib.washington.edu/asp/databases/klcni/query.asp) is now on the web site, and linked it to the UW's Korean Studies home page. Searches can be conducted by romanized author, romanized title, keywords, or volume number. The Korean version of each record can be viewed by pressing "Korean Record" box. All names are entered in alphbetical order, the last name first, using McCune-Reischauer romanization system. Titles of books can also be searched using McCune-Reischauer romanization system.
