Last time I did the drive I went straight through, this time I would like to break up the drive a little bit with some detours. Todd ------------------------------ From: "Todd Deininger" Date: Sat, 24 Jun 2000 09:10:05 -0600 Subject: the_dojang: Ripley's believe it or not Did anyone see Ripley's believe it or not on Wednesday evening. There was a martial artist on the show. The premise was that they could be hit and not show any reaction. They were doing punches and kicks to the mid section, throat strikes, and even groin strikes. I was wondering if anyone saw the show or knows this guy. I didn't catch his name, the tv was pretty far away. Todd ------------------------------ From: HwarangTSD@aol.com Date: Sat, 24 Jun 2000 11:36:38 EDT Subject: the_dojang: Re: Gen Choi <> I tend to disagree. Other than the founding of the Oh Do Kwan, and the possibility that he created the name Taekwondo, what was his importance? Seems to me that he is just the most highly publicized of the "founders". The second statement implies that he was responsible for organizing TKD.This I really disagree with. As he, himself idicates, he "created Taekwondo in 1955". Well that brings up an interesting question, what did Lee, Won Kuk, and the others do in the 40's? Thats a 10 year gap from the founding of the Chung Do Kwan. Seems to me that Chois importance may be slightly over exaggerated. Heck, the Chung Han forms, in places, bear a striking resemblence to the Pyong Ahn set. For example Won Hyo, is like a carbon copy of Pyung Ahn EE Dan, with some minor changes. I personally tend to look at Choi, as I do many of the Koreans who have left Korea. They have simply left their home, found a niche and make money, like the rest of us. Therefore, like the rest of us, they need to see their business do well. Personally, I chalk much of the Choi information to simple marketing. I realize that I'm probably getting myself in trouble here, but this is only IMVHO. You guys have a great week end! I wrote this down while sittin' on the beach. Have you ever thought about the almost insignificant things that cause you to do weird or unusual behaviors ? As martial artists we are supposed to learn control as part of our regimen. Living in a fast paced Western society sometimes causes the best of us to lose control. Prior to leaving for the beach I had to accomplish a myriad of tasks. Checklist city. I had to return 12 stainless steel bolts for the manifold on my 57 Chevy back to the Hardware Store. This was one of many to do items. When I arrived at the Hardware Store, the older clerk was in a bad mood. In short, I allowed myself to get sucked into this man's negativity. I got so lathered up that at one point I uttered the "Do you want to discuss this outside ?" language. I could not believe that I said that. This was not me. I subsequently deescalated the situtation. While I now sit on the beach, sippin' my favorite beverage, I ponder that moment and realize that I need more training in the art of verbal combat. I have to work more on the martial arts principles. Self-control, hey. Well, enough of these inner thoughts. Please open the cooler and pass me a cold one. Cheers, McD...(Ken pulls out his binoculars and looks at...) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get Yahoo!
