They are headed by a self proclaimed famous guy by the name of Rod Sacharnoski,PhD. You can read about he and his followers at www.jukokai.com I was given a few articles by a cop/student a couple years ago that were written by this guy. His attitude seems to be that martial arts (other than his) are not effective for self defense and police defensive tactics. A few points he makes are valid, but I find most of his rationale weak. His experience seems to be limited to Japanese arts, but he does make reference to TKD and HKD. example: "...almost every martial system taught in the western world today is a bu-do art, which defined means 'martial way'. These arts are not combat systems and were not developed as effective fighting arts." He goes on to say that Karate,Kendo,Aikido are noncombat systems, and includes TKD,HKD,& TSD in this. Mostly, his articles slam other systems while hyping the Juko-Kai, and its leader, Dr.Rod. Lastly, a note on the ripley's thing. I find that these types of practices and media attention focus on what martial arts are not. The 'I will stand here while you strike my neck' stuff only encourages the chop-socky krotty image that the uniformed public has regarding Martial Arts. I only have one question about the program.....Why were none of the strikes done to the face? Hmmm. They are members of Juko- Kai and practice Combat Ki. This Art was developed by Dr. Rod Sacharnoski, he is world renowed and very connected in the Japanese Martial Arts. You can contact him in North Carolina by phone or via his site on the internet. If you type Juko-Kai in keyword on your computer it should show up. I hope this helps. Many people, of course, shot their own tapes, however, and filming of resident athletes' matches, and possibly others, is also done by OTC staff, for the athletes' to study. US Coach Han Won Lee (OTCTKD@aol.com) would know more about these.
