But is it a game that can potentionally create trouble for the future of martial arts? I seen the site. I almost lost a keyboard because I was drinking coffee while reading it. But seriously, these teens I seen in the pic. What happens when we just laugh and let them continue their game? Michael Rowe < >> ::laugh!:: Actually I have heard of SCA. I also staff for a large LARP. And have played them for over 5 years now. No where in this website do they talk about this being just a game. Did you go deeper into the site? They are making claims at training you to be a "real" ninja. Read the details on page 4... they claim to teach you all those things that martial arts dojos will only teach after "thousands of dollars a year on classes". They are not touting themselves as just a game... they are spouting that they can *replace* dojo training. Is my understanding correct that as long as the blade is 4 inches or less it is permissible ? If an overzealous police officer stops you and searches you, can he arrest you for certain type of blade carry. Part II. Recommendations on good blades to carry. Part III. Though I'm not directly in Los Angeles (I live 100 or so miles north), I can suggest two alternatives: 1) In the West LA/Santa Monica area> Bong Soo Han has a school on Santa Monica Blvd. one block west of Centinela. The ph: 310/829-2643. 2) Though not Hapkido, in Santa Clarita (about 30 miles north of LA proper), you could visit the TKD school where I train on Friday nights (sparring). If you are interested in this alternative, please e-mail me off list and I will give you the particulars. It would be great to meet you. Contact ITF Headquarters in Vienna to reach him, (or via the ITF website). Master Choi is very influential within the ITF and his reply to the question is interesting from a number of perspectives, whether one agrees with it or not. Moreover, it is also a matter of public record, as are also all the writings of General Choi. If there were an abundance of such materials, then our understanding of TKD history, development, and "current state" would be based more on documented sources than prejudices, hearsay, and loyalties. Now, before I get blasted, Ray does have some such materials on his website. And this is a good thing, even if there are a lot of contradictions between sources (i.e., Lee et al vs Choi Hong Hi). All documented sources should be considered as valuable and brushed off with sarcasm. In fact, to adopt one of the "Original" Taekwondos would be to summarily discard about 40 years of technical innovation and tactical evolution in one stroke, for the sole purpose of stroking the needy ego of one of taekwondo's "Original" originators. That will vary state by state (in the US) and in many cases city or county by city/county. Some LEOs will use the 'width of the palm' test for blade length, but there are few if any laws specifying that as the legal limit. > Part II. Recommendations on good blades to carry.
