Perhaps he came up with the name, that he misused his power to force the kwans to change to, but that doesn't entitle him to be their founder as these arts were being practiced before he came up with the name Taekwondo. He created the name in '55, Chung Do, Song Moo, and Moo Duk were all around much longer than '55. As I am unsure of the founding dates of the other kwans, i have left them out. Ses, I fully agree... much of this "founder" stuff seems to me to be little more than arrogant ego stroking. Its a shame we haven't grown past this. I don't tolerate this behavior from children in my classes. So what is this example teaching? I don't mean to start a flame war, but enough is really enough. Maybe we should be focusing on the future? Is my understanding correct that as long as the blade is 4 inches or less it is permissible ? If an overzealous police officer stops you and searches you, can he arrest you for certain type of blade carry. Part II. Recommendations on good blades to carry. >> Ray answered the questions as well as I could have. It varies by the state. A few extra things to consider: Police *generally* consider straight edges to be less "evil" than serrated. If you do carry a knife, *never* carry it for self defense - carry it because you use it for opening boxes, etc. and happened to have it handy. As for recommendations... I am a die hard Spyderco fan. Assuming you're using the lock back style Spyderco's, make sure you can't get the lock to fail on you. This is a typical fault with most all lock backs. e.g. take your Endura or Delica or ?? and white-knuckle it (grip it as HARD as you can) in various grip positions. Can you get the lock to release? Most never try this little test and this very possibly is what you'll do with your knife should your life ever be on the line, i.e. grab it who knows how -and- with a death grip. My hand is shaped such that I can fail many lock back models. That is why I like the rolling lock or liner lock models. But be advised that a liner lock, esp production models, can also fail on you. You have to pick out one in which the liner engages very positively. Roller locks seem to not fail.
