Now here's a good lead-in for a new discussion: Make sure your board holders know what they are doing. I'd like to hear some other comments, but here's what we teach as "good holding": - - Solid stances, normally front stances, on the two people holding - - Arms locked out - - Boards firmly positioned on the holder's hands, with the finger-tips removed as much as possible from the striking surface of the boards (won't be much of an issue with three boards!) - - SHOULDERS of holders together with "near" opposite hands holding the top of the boards. - - Often times our "back" leg in the front stance will interlock so as to Good luck, Mark Lasich Mark.Lasich@alcoa.com Good points all! I just have to vent my pet peeve: failure of holders to lock their arms. I can't believe how many ranking BBs hold with their elbows bent, absorbing the shock and making the break harder for the student. Also, a lot of them try to help by pushing the board just as the student strikes it. I don't think this will accomplish anything except mess up the breaker's timing and distance. Chesterfield county, VA is particularly hard, as they do not even allow their police officers to carry weaopns in certain areas, i.e. court buildings. frank ------------------------------ From: Migukyong@aol.com Date: Thu, 6 Jul 2000 17:19:52 EDT Subject: the_dojang: Re: LEO and the law I am unsure of where you were in the us, that LEO didn't know the law. Is my understanding correct that as long as the blade is 4 inches or less it is permissible ? If an overzealous police officer stops you and searches you, can he arrest you for certain type of blade carry. It realy depends of the laws or the country/state or peovince. Sorry you could not make it (I missed the first couple of days myself). We had a lot of great people from all around the country and world there, including Master Yung T. Freda and Master Massan Ghorbani from Ireland. Dojunim provided the techniques and Master Yung did a excellent job of explaining in fine detail the mechanics of the techniques and also provided an indepth explanation of Dojunim's philosophy. The week covered everything from basic techniques all the way through advanced power breaking, power meditation, and Sin Moo Hapkido philosophy. Everyone had a great time and many new friendships for forged through the spirit of Hapkido. I would like to especially thank Master Ken Mackenzie and his staff for their hard work and dedication in sponsoring the seminar. They are a class act and do an excellent job of taking care of Dojunim. Unfortunately, Dojunim announced at this seminar that this would be his last intensive seminar, as he wants to devote more time over the next couple of years towards developing his video tape series and hapkido books, and spend more time providing individual instructor training. He will still be going to Austria this Aug-Sep as planned and will continue to conduct his annual seminar here in Florida during November. However, for all those who have been waiting to train with Dojunim Ji Han Jae, I recommend taking advantage of the soonest opportunity, as his busy schedule and variety of projects he is involved in will limit the time that the public has to train with him. I'll be posting info soon on our seminar in November. I'll also send info later on the upcoming re-release of Bruce Lee's Game of Death. Dojunim's fight scene with Bruce Lee will be edited to a full 18 minutes of the fight scene. There are problems with Mc-R, as there will be in any system of romanisation, but they are few. The new system fails as either a system providing a pronunciation guide to non-Korean speakers (such as tourists who are unlikely to learn a system of romanisation before coming) or a method of accurately transliterating hangul. Nonetheless, thanks for the web site link.
