Can't say it was Billy Jack, but it was a source even more esoteric. WHen I was a kid there was a comic strip called Dondi. Dondi was a Korean War orphan brought back to the States. And at some point in the story line, Dondi took Judo. Martial art hooked me right then. I musta been 6. When I was 20 I had the money to pay for lessons and my best friend brought me to his dojang. Never looked back. Rick Foley ------------------------------ From: "Rudy Timmerman" Date: Sun, 09 Jul 2000 02:38:16 -0400 Subject: the_dojang: Billy Jack After reading the considerable interest on the Billy Jack subject, I remembered a visit from a rather nice fellow who claimed to be the "real thing". Since I am a trusting fellow, I never questioned the claim. The visit came during my 23rd annual tournament about seven years ago, and "Billy" actually performed a nice demonstration (I invited him to do one). I believe I still have a picture of the occasion, and I will put it up on my website as soon as I can locate it. "Billy" ran an adventure outfit in the "four corners area" of Arizona and New Mexico, and he apparently was quite a successful trainer in survival skills. If someone has some info on this gentleman, look at the www.nkmaa.ca website in a week or so. Perhaps you can verify if this WAS the "real thing". Although the movie did not get me started (that was back in 1950), it certainly made an impression on me. They did the scene in the ice-cream shop, where after Billy wipes the floor with the two guys, he gets an ice-cream cone with different colors, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry. One of the women says, "Look at how all these colors coexist on the ice-cream cone. If more people were like this ice-cream cone, then Billy wouldn't have to kill so many of them." ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Sun, 09 Jul 2000 7:30:32 PDT Subject: re: the_dojang: Request for Schools in College Park, MD > Anyone know of any good USTU schools in or near College Park, MD?
