Have you considered filing a formal complaint to the department the responding officer is assigned to? That sounds a bit out of the officer's domain, and more in the domain of the attorneys.. You should counter-sue:) A quote someone once gave me: "Don't assume that when TSHTF that you will rise to the occasion. Instead you will default to your level of training." I'm not saying your training is poor, but maybe use this situation to motivate yourself to train harder. Here's to hoping you never have to do this again:) Tom ------------------------------ From: Erik Kluzek Date: Wed, 12 Jul 2000 10:26:29 -0600 (MDT) Subject: Re: the_dojang: sparring, ITF vs. WTF Brad You've got some interesting kicks here. Throw the ax kick drawing the opponent's attention upwards (but no contact) and then tag them in the stomach with the round kick. It must be done fast, as any double kicks should be. I also love twist kicks. You can double them up as well, with round or side kicks. I go in, raise my lead leg as if to throw a front-leg kick, and as soon as their hands drop for the throw, pop them in the head w/ a jab or backfist. As someone else mentioned, I also have found the double kick combo (fake first/then actual, like front kick/roundhouse) to be effective for the same reason - their hands drop on the first kick. One of the drills I work on is multiple kicks w/o touching the foot down. I use a heavy hanging bag and throw maybe five roundhouses in a row (front leg), retracting the leg to knee bent position, but keeping the knee high. This develops balance, leg strength, and gives one more options in surprising an opponent. In my personal experience and from my extensive observation of higher level WTF events, the most successful scoring methodology is to get your opponent to commit to an attack, then evade and counter - probably with a roundhouse directed to the lower abdomen. That would be Mr. Jong Soo Park who later (maybe 1982 or '83) was asked to host the Canadian National Championships by the WTF. At that time current USTU President Sang Lee was located in upstate New York and was asked by Dr. Kim to attend this event in Toronto as a technical advisor. I, naturally, got to be his driver for the 6 hour trip from Binghamton to Toronto. That "Canadian National Championship" was a tiny event hosted in Master Park's one-ring, 2nd floor Dojang in Toronto. As was the case in that era, nearly all the champions came from Master Chong Lee's JiDoKwan dojang in Montreal. This is not the JiDoKwan Master Chong Woo Lee who is now VP of the WTF, but another very senior and highly regarded grandmaster of the same name. Does anyone know the honest scoop about Mr. Frank Dux and the so-called "Kumi-te" fight-to-the death-tournament. Like so much martial arts lore, I suspect this is one of those things blown up by the movies as kumi-te simply means "sparring" in Japanese. If, like in the movie BLOODSPORT, this event was actually held in Hong Kong (?), why was is given a Japanese title?
