Hilland" Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 10:52:38 -0400 Subject: the_dojang: Korea and other current events Just a few days till we leave for Korea for a couple of weeks of hapkido training with our host Dr. Kimm. This is a group of about 3 dozen hapkido black belts from the USKMAF (www.hapkido.com) which includes a 8th dan (Master J. R. West), a 7th dan (Master Booth), two 5th dan holders (Master Renee West and your truly) and about thirty-two 1st - 4th dan holders including Mrs. Booth and Mrs. Hilland. BTW, this group of 3 dozen hapkido dan holders consists of less than1/4 of the dan holders of different martial ways that attend the hapkido festivities in Jackson, Mississippi each year. I will like to publicly thank Dr. Kimm and my teacher Master J. R. West for the great amount of effort put into planning and organizing this event. Without the effort of these two outstanding leaders this trip would not occur. It is with regret that our vacation schedule will not allow us to attend the August workshop in Jackson but Jennifer and I will be attending the one in February along with our students from Indiana, Ohio and Texas. I will also be attending Master West's October workshop in Houston, Texas. The local Chungdokwan instructor who is my hapkido student will be hosting a hapkido workshop here in southeastern Indiana around the end of August with yours truly. The date and location will be posted once finalized. If you are in the Midwest and are interested in the hapkido techniques influenced by Master West and a clinic formatted in his tradition, I would be honored by your attendance. Jere R. For all of you who are following the wealth fare of Grand Master Nam Suk Lee, he recently had a stroke. GM Lee was in a hospital in the L.A. area for a few weeks. Just 2 weeks ago, he was moved by his family to an undisclosed rest home. Master Wiedenman who visited him daily told us that he was able to move his eyes and appeared to be understanding what was being said to him. Master Wiedenman also told us that in a previous interview with GM Lee, he had given us the duty to continue to promote Traditional Chang Moo Kwan. We feel that since GM Lee personally trained us for the last 2 years and showed us the original of the CMK forms, we owe it to him to keep CMK alive! We all consider this a tragedy, we had made big plans with GM Lee for the 50th anniversary of Chang Moo Kwan this September. We know he will not be there with us but we want all of you who some how have roots in CMK to celebrate with us and pass on the legacy of this incredible human being, leader and Grand Master Nam Suk Lee...
