I don't know of _any_ ITF tournaments that eliminate hands > to the head. High section punches are one of our more important > techniques - particularly when done in a jumping motion. It should be pointed out that jumping hand techniques targeted to the head are _explicitly_ allowed by ITF rules - they score three points! So, any ITF tournaments that don't allow hands to the head are modifying the official rules for their own use. Which is fine, although I personaly would question the wisdom of disallowing head punches. ;-) - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dave Steffen Wave after wave will flow with the tide Dept. of Physics And bury the world as it does Colorado State University Tide after tide will flow and recede steffend@lamar.colostate.edu Leaving life to go on as it was... - Peart / RUSH "The reason that our people suffer in this way.... is that our ancestors failed to rule wisely". -General Choi, Hong Hi ------------------------------ From: uh2@centurytel.net Date: Thu, 20 Jul 2000 13:18:23 -0500 Subject: the_dojang: Looking for somewhere to train in London/St. Thomas. ON area Hey everyone...I'm a 9th gup WTF style TKD'er. I've been lurking here since I started my training about 2-3 months ago. I've gained alot of insight and knowledge just from reading the email from this list. My question is, I'm going to be flying into Toronto, and driving to London/St. Thomas for 4 days next week (Mon-Thur). I know I'm only 9th gup, but I would like to continue my training while I'm away from my Dojang. Is there anyone on this list that is famliar with this area, and could guide me to a Dojang/gym where I could work train? My Dojang spars every Friday, and I would hate to miss a week's worth or training before our weekly session. Any help would be greatly appreciated. As for it's effectiveness in self defense, it fills its own niche and can be very effective.
