In my opinion, the WTF/Kukkiwon has solved this in a nice matter by offering the top grade, 9th dan, "openly". The traditional ryu-thing with only ONE top man that only passes his grade on upon his death is the reason for quite many outbreaks. Relatively recently, the ITF has also went in this direction with a total of four 9th dans - that's nice. I believe that GTF and ATA still only have one 9th dan. Whether this has to do with policy or not, I don't know. I have not heard of any Japanese system with more than one top man. Anyone else? Personally, I would prefer the use of Mandarin spelling. After all, it was the imperial language that was created to solve the communication problems between different races and dialects in China. The same thing happenned to Kuntao, Kuntaw, Kuntau, Kenpo, Kempo and Kwon Bup which means the same thing with some variations due the evolution in different regions. Sincerely, S. H. Or is it referred to as "Blue Belt Form?" The form you describe looks to be Toi Gye, named for a significant Korean philosopher. You should expect more than "Blue Belt Form". Have you seen people doing effective jumping hand techniques before? Next, I will have to stomp back and forth in a middle stance while doing twin outer forearm blocks. The Blue Belt From has 37 moves, and the guy its named after (The noted scholar Yi Hwang A.K.A Toi Gye; 16th Century AD) was born on the 37th parallel in Korea. ------------------------------ From: "John Oss" Date: Fri, 21 Jul 2000 09:47:05 -0400 Subject: the_dojang: Re: Looking For Somewhere to Train - London ON Hi Udell, You can try Bluewater Tae Kwon Do on 425 First St. London ON 519-455-0210. I attended a tournament hosted by them about 1 year or so ago and they seem to be well represented. Sorry, but I don't have any names to refer you to. Good luck with your training. John P.
