If the WTF tried absorbing these american orgs I >believe we would then be looking at an anti trust suit. I beleive the original author was writing in hypothetical. If the ATA or ITF agreed to be "absorbed" WTF is loose enough to let them continue to do what they're doing. True or not, that the point he was making. I think we're all quite sure that WTF/ITF/ATA will remain three separate entities for a VERY long time. - - Brett Erwin ------------------------------ From: HKDHW@aol.com Date: Mon, 24 Jul 2000 16:54:39 EDT Subject: the_dojang: the ocean/ and Hapkido As the end of this project is almost upon us I will once again be able commit myself to Hapkido or be committed. I can relate to Ken about job changes and the responsibilities that go with it. On the Jackup barge which is the same as an oil rig I have learned what responsibility is if I fail the men below me in a tunnel 350 feet below the ocean surface will never relies it but their familles will as they will be no more. They already lost two divers a year ago on the same project, So the responsibility is tremendous as is the pay. But I am working 87-94 hours a week and that is over a seven day period when most are a sleep in there beds I am still hard at work boy do I miss Hapkido and my family and students and friends I have had a lot of free time while monitoring equipment vital to there survival to think revaluate and Hapkido is still a priority in my life. How about Tang soo do? Indeed, I try my best to maintain a TKD forms resource site at http://ryanshroyer.tripod.com/ There you'll find step-by-step descriptions of the ITF patterns, Pyong-Ahn, Taegeuk, Palgue, and many others, including several Shotokan patterns that are still used in TKD (e.g. Bal-Sek/Bassai, Chul-Gi/Tekki, etc.) I hope you find it useful. Didn't quite say this properly! I did not mean to imply or make any connections between a "mcdojo" and the WTF. Apologies to anybody I may have offended. Given the requirements of becoming afiliated with a major federation or organization, I suspect that anybody opening a mcdojo would not be associated with any of them. Now that I'm on the topic, what are the requirements for becoming an officially recognized club by the WTF and ATA? I believe the requirements for becoming an ITF sanctioned club is that, first off, the instructor must be a minimum of 4th Dan and an ITF Interntional Instructor. Then theres an agreement with the ITF regarding a variety of items (use of name, logo, style to be taught, etc.). Mr. Martin do you have further details? Taekwon! As I understand it, a club or an instructor cannot be a member of the WTF. The WTF is the single GAISF-recognized International Sport Federation controlling Taekwondo. The members of the WTF are the National Governing Bodies for Taekwondo from the various countries around the world. Thus a country's NGB may be a WTF member, but not clubs/instructors/students. And how many masters of these kwans? Saying Taekwondo is a lot like saying chinese food. There are styles that are spicier than others but we still call it chinese food. How many recipes for the same thing, yet different enough to emphasize different flavors, aromas, textures? Everyone doing the form exactly the same way? A single flavor, a single texture? What a bore! And what source do you use to standardize these forms? The video? A book? So what does an instructor bring to the mix, besides someone to see if you are moving like the guy in the video? My daughter could do that at age three. It is the communication between us, the pursuit of martial art as a way to make ourselves better, that makes it worthwhile. I prefer a seasoned master, with a lifetime of experience, over any static medium. But what do I know?
