Not really attacking each other though. My wife and I wrestle all the time - he knows how to get out of wrist grabs so I can't hold her. Some times when we are out and about (like at the mall etc.) and I'm holding hands with one of them, I'll try to go into some type of joint lock, etc. They in turn will try to catch me off guard and do the same. It's kind of like on the spot impromptu training. We are all very cautious and careful, moving slowly. My one daughter catches on fast. I don't remember what I was doing, but in almost any manner I tried to grab and hold her, she would just start to pinch my triceps OUCH!!!!. She knows what a tinder area that is and how effective it is :-) Grandmaster Rogers showed me that one..... thanks! A time-honored training technique to hone your reflexes! John Franich P.S. Hope to see WTSDA members in Anaheim August 11-13! In addition to individual competition, my son Aaron and I are privileged to participate as members of one of the 16 teams selected to compete in the creativity division. We're gonna have a blast! ------------------------------ From: Alanis0811@aol.com Date: Tue, 1 Aug 2000 19:19:10 EDT Subject: the_dojang: Women/Girls Training at Home In response it IIIona, yes indeed it is! I'm an 18 yr old female in Tang Soo Do, (www.cheezictsd.com) with a brother in TSD 20 months younger, a foot taller, 60 lbs heavier, and same rank (we're 3rd gup red). Growing up, we wrestled and fought and I was definitely a tomboy, although my parents tried to push me in the direction of dresses and dolls, where he could do karate at school and all. "Karate isn't for girls" they said. Now that I'm old enough to choose for myself, they have seen it change me. I feel a lot better now than I would have a couple years ago driving on a dark road in my clunky old car. I'm glad women in martial arts are starting to be recognized as worthy opponents and competitors. He keeps an open forum to all, and degrades none. Too bad that there are others who refuse to learn from his example. Perhaps that is why he has not joined you recently for Thanksgiving festivities. If I am in error then my apologies--along with my sick sense of humor.
