Small bit on awareness and avoidance. 2. Stance, Balance and footwork. Basic fighting stance, stepping with lead foot, keeping balance at all times Moving off the center line Combine moving off line with blocks 3. What to do when grabbed. Wrist, arm, lapel, neck (chokes front and rear), bear hug (front and rear), head locks, etc. 4. Hitting back. Jab, cross, uppercut, hook punches. palm heel strike, slap, knife hand, eye jab, hammer fist, forearm strike, elbow strikes, front kick, push kick, side kick, stomp, inside of foot kick (all below waist), knee strikes, Head butts, biting. 5. Falling. Basic front roll, back fall with roll, side fall, front fall to face. 6. Put him down A couple throws and ways to put person on ground. 7. On the ground. Real basic stuff if on the ground (not a comprehensive grappling video, but to do something fast and get back up, or how to keep him away with your feet if you are down) 8. A talk about mindset 9. Putting it all together. How all the things done go together (Note - not going to do joint locks and controlling techniques since I do them in my Hapkido videos. First one "Hapkido Hoshinsul" is out, next one will be filmed next year) 10. Weapons. Will not teach a lot of weapon disarms. Will discuss running and why it can be your best choice when faced with a gun. Will talk very little about knives too. Both of these subjects (guns and knives) are hard to do service to with just a short section. So I rather just mention them and leave them for another time. Will talk a little about blunt weapons too. Using weapons. Will talk about environmental weapons, legalities of carrying a weapon. 11. Fitness and Training. Talk about fitness and its importance and about training. So that's a general description of what this video will cover. It is a lot, and may end up being a two video set. But at the same time it is not much, since you can only put so much into a video in the time frame you have. Thanks again for the comments on the list and in private. If you have anything to add or say about the list above, comments are always welcome. Mr. Moreno continues to impress with his ability as an instructor, his competitive outlook, as a decent human being. Many good wishes go with him to the Olympics in September! ------------------------------ From: Ken McDonough Date: Sun, 6 Aug 2000 08:02:21 -0700 (PDT) Subject: the_dojang: Comments on one readers idea about TKD as effective street art Well, glad to see we are off the list wars topic. At one time I was removed from a list since I tried to present an argument that not all martial arts are effective street fighting systems. My purely theoretical premise was that high kicks, as practiced in TKD, are not effective weapons in the street since you expose yourself to being off balance and being charged by your opponent. Well, I was quickly banned from the previously stated list since that was the hub of TKD practitioners who would not open their respective minds to other ideas. So, I was reading this comment from another individual and now post it from another cite. Any comments gladly encouraged and not personalized. I made a comment that someone didn't like, and immediately the invasive questions began. When I indicated that I didn't feel that these items, some of them my personal teaching credentials, were any of their business unless they intended on studying with me, they threatened to kick me off the list. when I first posted here, I didn't know about the boycott, but then I was booted off the list. These people have gone so far as to publish one of my associates home address online, not realizing that she has children that are sometimes alone at home, have called my home and office using a false pretense, have slandered myself and other martial artists, and have gone so far as to create an aol screenname that appeared similar to mine, while using my real name in the profile. If these people were ethical, this would not happen; however, I will eventually have the last laugh, as there is some legal action pending due to these actions. Ray, I know you asked us to drop it, and I apologize to you for relaying this information again, however, this does skirt a constitutional issue on invasion of privacy, and violates civil liberties. People who do not know should be made awaerr so as to protect themselves. Frank ------------------------------ From: ABurrese@aol.com Date: Sun, 6 Aug 2000 12:27:09 EDT Subject: the_dojang: Hit Man movie The movie about the Paladin Press lawsuit over the book HIT MAN is on TV tonight Aug 6th. FX channel. I've seen a number of ads for it now, and it looks interesting. It looks as though it won't show Paladin in the best light. One ad had a car driving past with a shoe along the edge of the road way, with a voice over saying, "The shoes you wore should be discarded as carefully as your weapon....Toss them out separately at intervals along the highway. Ever see a single tennis shoe lying in the road? Now you know from whence it came....." That was right out of the book. (p105) Sort of funny. I still think it is ridiculous to sue Paladin Press over a book. And not just because Paladin is my publisher. I'm all for being able to write and read what you want, and then each person is responsible for their actions after that. I'll let people know more about the movie after I see it tonight. I'd like to hear what others that see it think as well.
