I just want to let you know how they are held. Multiple classes are held at the same time (for 3 days) so you can pick the one you want to attend. Each class is only about one hour long so you can take a quick break and digest what you practiced before the next class and subject matter starts. You will find classes suitable for any rank. There is really only mission - to practice hapkido. Having fun, seeing old friends, and learning something new, that is simply what it is all about. Jere R. I'll say even you have quite a deal, Illona!! I live in a town of 8600 people, and my dojang is 1250 sq ft and I pay $875/month.....the commercial property in this place is definitely at a premium...there just isn't enough of it yet to make the prices competitive. Right now I have to have 40 students just to break even! (Never mind me getting paid!) You will also need to acquire a bullet resistant or stab resistant vest, unless you feel that martial arts skills are enough. And I hope you are up on your shots...because while you are trying to 'restrain' them, they will be covered with various slimy substances, and will be trying to scratch and bite you.....maybe you should show them your blackbelt....that will make them comply! <> I don't think that most of the 'sheltered' public actually knows anything about law enforcement use of force issues...including most martial artists. All they see is some pooooor defenseless person being 'beat up' by police. For you armchair use of force experts out there, certain things need to happen before force is used. Officers will ask, tell, command, and then act along a force continuum to make someone who is in violation of established rules/laws comply. Reasonable & normal people do not resist police to the point where they need to get sprayed by OC or have a baton used against them. What the wonderful videos never seem to show is the lead up to the use of force....because as I hope you all know, a fight doesn't start with punches being thrown. There is a build up before that. The video doesn't show the protester throwing things or not responding to lawful orders. Recently, during the protests in Portland, I watched a very informative segment done by a local TV station. They had reporters out in the 'protesting' crowd asking participants why they were there. Out of the 30 or so interviewed, only 2 knew exactly why and what was being protested......the rest were there to make trouble and cause unrest...and gave such insightful answers as 'F*** the police,' and 'Uhhhhh, I dunno,' and some garbled statement about abused salmon. One of the two who knew, stated that she was involved in organizing the march/protest, and that she had no idea who these other people were, and that they did not represent the intent of the demonstration. A few hours later at a local book store whose employees were striking due to union contract negotiations, more of the black hooded, gas masked, self proclaimed anarchists showed up to create more problems there.....causing the bookstore employees to flee fearing for their own safety. Is it in the best interest of the public to allow violence or the potential violence to arise and should we tell police to do nothing? I bet if you look real close at the protests in L.A., you will find some of the same 'protester' faces in the crowd that you saw in the crowd during the riots following the Lakers championship. This links with the 1st amendment discussion here. There are established ways to protest-march-peaceably assemble etc. All that changes when the amateur terrorists show up. The voice of the protest is not heard, is not understood, and gets lost amidst the chaos created by hooligans. I would not want my message overshadowed by or connected to any type of violence. The use of force by police was not caused by police. The police use force in response to someone not responding to established parameters set forth by laws by the people and for the people. Pause and wonder what would happen if no order was maintained, and no one was around to stop unlawfulness.......I'm sure a blackbelt would stop it from knocking on your door.....don't bother calling 911, I'm sure you have it all figured out.
