Throughout the years, many changes were done to differentiate this system from it's original roots, but we do acknowledge the okinawan/ japanese heritage. My question is geared towards why sooooooooooooooooo many taekwondoists are still insisting that this is a purely ancient korean art; including the name TAEKWONDO.....Chang Hon Taekwon Do was founded by Choi Hong Hi, back in the 1950's...He did change many moves, added the "SINE WAVE", and even came up with 24 new forms just for this particular style of Taekwon Do...It is a very traditional style with sparring , breaking, forms, grappling, pressure points, meditation, and of course the history of oriental culture........................................ I'm the one who posted the bit about Billy Hong. I have no idea as to how accurate the info is, I just quoted a website since someone asked about it. Can you ask your instructors about the story? The URL is below; it mentions both the Japanese tournament story along with the story of his death you mentioned. http://www.pipeline.com/~jeriwho/tkd.htm >---------------------------------------------------------------------- >From: "Charles H. Hi all, I'm new to the list and wish to introduce myself. My name is David and I write to you all from Edinburgh in Scotland. I am 25 years old. I was a student at Han Wong's academy if Tae Kwon Do when I was 17 for about 5 years. I let it go as I got married moved away from the area ( Yes, I know that's no excuse!). However I have tracked down another academy in my new area and plan to go along this evening. My old academy was WTF and my new one is ITF what are the differences?? Can someone let me know?? I think WTF is full contact and ITF is semi contact?? Would I be right?? thanks, Look forward to the replies.
