I think that the bottom line is that Lee is probably the only one who knows for sure. IMVHO modern Hwarang Do greatly resembles Hapkido. Perhaps this is what he studed but wishing to have his own system, he created one based on some history he had been taught. This is simply speculation on my part, but it does seem like thats the trend... creating new or personalized styles. Examples would be krav magda (an israeli art), brazilian jujutsu, etc... but then again, isn't this what the martial arts have done for the last couple of centuries? The way i see it is simple... if the individuals needs and goals are being met and/or exceeded, then the art is a bonified art. Otherwise, the individual is simply getting milked for money.
