How many classes does everyone on the list go to every week, and for how long? Would you do more if you could? 2x for 90 minutes each, yes I would. When we have the option tournament preparation classes I attend those. Anne Skjold ------------------------------ From: "Wallace, John" Date: Wed, 20 Sep 2000 14:40:03 -0700 Subject: the_dojang: Sarah's Quiz Q1: How many people on this list are 18 years old or under? Answer: I was under 18 over 13 years ago ;) Q3: How many classes does everyone on the list go to every week, and for how long? Would you do more if you could? Answer: I go to 4 classes per week: Mon, Tues, Thursday evenings and Saturday morning, all for at least an hour. For the most part, this is plenty for me. Sometimes, when I've tweaked something, its too much. I always make at least 2 classes per week though. If a larger proportion of our classes were conditioning or drills I'd need more class sessions to practice forms and so forth. - -JW 3rd Gup (Red) ------------------------------ From: JIM LAFLEY Date: Wed, 20 Sep 2000 17:46:33 -0400 Subject: the_dojang: chatter 1.) i turned 16 on the 1st. 2.) and if it's got something that i can relate to, i'll email the sender. that would be why i never talk. not like i'm nervous or anything. 3.) i work out at my house 7 days a week 1 1/2-2 hrs / day. and i teach at my school 2 days/week. 4 hrs one day and 1 1/2 the other. if i could, i'd train in like 3 styles. but i don't have my license so it's hard =( ------------------------------ From: William Hayes Date: Wed, 20 Sep 2000 14:24:59 -0800 Subject: the_dojang: Chatter, chatter, chatter... from the FNG... More chatter? OK. I'll formally introduce myself - briefly. My name is William Hayes and I live in Juneau, Alaska I'm 29 years old, married, and have one child (so far) Current occupation: Administrative Assistant for an Information Technology consulting firm Future occupation: Full-time National Guard position as a Company Supply Sergeant (start October 2) - currently have over 11 years of "weekend warrior" service as a grunt On the side: I've been a volunteer firefighter since 1991 Did I mention that I was an underachiever? I started Judo in 1990, Tang Soo Do in 1991, Aikido in 1998, and Te Kyon in 1998. I currently train in TSD, Aikido, and Te Kyon. I train all 7 days of the week in 2-4 hour sessions each. I was introduced to this list by Mr. Shaun Fortune (TKD) of Newton, Iowa (where my Uncle Greg trains). I had the opportunity to train with Mr. Fortune of Shin's Academy Newton just a couple of weeks ago. I got a chance to show him, my Uncle, and others there some similarities between, TKD, TSD, Hapkido, Aikido, and Judo, and Te Kyon. I know a few eyebrows were raised when demonstrating some techniques. Overall, I considered it excellent training for me and Mr. Fortune's students. Thanks again, Shaun! I know, just like the military, everyone wants to know your rank, so here it goes: Judo: Yellow Belt (club disbanded in 1992 so was unable to continue "formal" training) Tang Soo Do: 1st Degree Black Belt (actually Midnight Blue) Aikido: White Belt (no current testing system in place yet) Te Kyon: Equivalent to Green Belt (we wear cloth head bands designating our rank - I've passed 4 tests so far) So, that's me in a nutshell. I'm eager to listen in on other's conversations here and provide input whenever I can (whether you like it or not!). Sense of humor? YOU BET!!! - - William Hayes ------------------------------ From: "Todd and Debi Deininger" Date: Wed, 20 Sep 2000 17:21:29 -0600 Subject: the_dojang: Head strikes Thought I would throw this out to the list since Ray is looking for some chatter. What is your opinion on head strikes/head butts? Also, Ray I am working in Loveland now, so next time you are in the area it would be pretty cool to meet you. I met a fellow member at the sinmoo seminar this summer and it is neat to put a face to the name. On that note. Scott, how are things going? Sorry I haven't gotten in touch with you yet. Let me know if you still need anything. I speak up and usually get answers on my TSD q's butusually don't have anything to add. I go to classes 3-5 times a week, as I have my own car and scheduling choices in my life, no parental restrictions. Hang in there and humor them for now, the time will come! TKD gets six bouts each of nine minute action filled minutes. That's 54 minutes. Each tape is $19.95, which makes each TKD minute much more "valuable" than soccer.
