(BTW - Dong du chon was a lot worse at times for 2nd I.D. causing trouble, since near Itawon you had 8th Army "pukes" from Youngsan) :-) Alain ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Wed, 27 Sep 2000 07:54:44 -0700 (PDT) Subject: the_dojang: more ozlympics USA's Poe out - preliminary summaries 27 September 2000 Denmark's Hanne Hoegh POULSEN defeated contest favourite USA's Kay POE 4-3 in the first upset of the Women's under 49kg division of Taekwondo. POE led 3-0 at the beginning of the third round and looked as though she would win with POULSEN having lost a point in round 2. In a surprise come back, POULSEN took the lead after a succession of roundhouse kicks to POE's mid section and head, and won the contest. POULSEN now meets Juana WANGSA PUTRI (INA) in the next phase. Turkey's Dondu GUVENC has advanced to the third phase after defeating Eva Marie DITAN (PHI) 6-1 and NGUYEN THI Xuan Mai (VIE) by superiority. The result of the contest between GUVENC and NGUYEN THI became contentious when the umpire awarded the win to NGUYEN THI 3-2, not realising she had lost a point in the last round for not attacking. After GUVENC and the Turkish coach protested, the umpire took back her decision and awarded the win to GUVENC by superiority. In the other contests, CHI Shu-Ju (TPE) defetaed Fadime HELVACIOGLU (GER) 1-0 and now meets Australia's Lauren BURNS in session two. Urbia MELENDEZ RODRIGUEZ (CUB) defeated Agueda PEREZ LOPEZ (MEX) 4-1 and Likeleli THAMAE (LES) 3-0, and meets GUVENC (TUR) in the third phase, session two. ONS Clear winners in first day's contests 27 September 2000 Clear winnners emerged from the Preliminary 1 contests as Roberto CRUZ (PHI), HUANG Chih-Hsiung (TPE), Michail MOUROUTSOS (GRE), Joseph SALIM (MAR), and Naser BUFTAIN (KUW) easily defeated their opponents. The only close contest was Moroccan Younes SEKKAT's win over Australia's Paul LYONS by superiority, with the scores tied at 4-4. In other matches, BUFTAIN's much smaller opponent, Mfanukhona DLAMINI (SWZ), was injured in the second round which forced the referee to stop the contest. DLAMINI had to be carried off on a stretcher. The first two contests of Preliminary 2 were close encounters as well. CRUZ faced Gabriel Alberto TARABURELLI (ARG) who had a bye in the first round and was leading the contest on points until the last 30 seconds of the 3rd Round. He eventually lost to TARABURELLI 5-7. MOUROUTSOS defeated HUANG, scoreless in the first two rounds MOUROUTSOS scored with two front-kicks in the third round to win 1-2. MOUROUTSOS will now face TARABURELLI in the Preliminary 3 Round. ONS Lauren burns the best of them Posted: September 27, 2000 Lauren Burns has caused a sensation in the taekwondo ring by making it through to the gold medal bout later tonight. Burns, a 26-year-old Victorian fighting for Australia in the under-49kg division, defeated Hanne Hoegh Poulsen of Denmark in the semi-final in a nail-biting finish. Poulsen was leading into the final round 2-1, but incurred a full penalty point that meant if the bout was tied, Burns would go through. Burns did just that in the final round, but incurred a penalty herself in the process. But it didn't matter in the end as Poulsen ran out of the ring repeatedly, incurring another penalty point before suffering a half-point penalty later in the bout. The fight was awarded to Burns, who earlier beat world champion Shi-Ju Chi of Chinese Taipei after the bout was awarded to her by the referee following a 1-1 draw. Burns, who is the daughter of singer Ronnie Burns, now faces a Cuban opponent in Urbia Melendez Rodriguez in the final later this evening. She is assured of at least a silver medal, but as is happening in so many sports at this Olympics, a parochial and very noisy home crowd could propel her to Australia's first ever taekwondo gold. ...from www.olympics.com and www.olympics.com.au Gold medal matches tonight! ------------------------------ From: todd miller Date: Wed, 27 Sep 2000 00:15:17 -0400 Subject: the_dojang: Insulin pump The insulin pump is worn on your belt or in a pocket similar to a pager(it is about the same size as a pager). There is a small plastic canular that is inserted in the abdomen area and changed every few days. I do not wear my pump while training, I find that the falls and take downs of Hapkido are just to much for the pump to take.
