No single person is 'the' Founder of Taekwondo... See http://www.martialartsresource.com/korean/history.html for how the evolution, not founding, came about. Taekwondo is not 2000 years old... See http://www.martialartsresource.com/korean/spirit.html for an explanation of its highly limited connection to anything ancient. Time to move on to something interesting. Thanks. There are a number of good schools here, but finding the best depends somewhat on just WHERE you are located. You could take a look at Ron Bain's Korean martial arts web site. http://www.cyberbeach.net/~bainr/koreanma/KMAlinks.htm Ron has an enormous number of links (including the adresses of many schools). Good luck in your search. Student retention is a great concern of our school. We are a 20 year old school that is associated with a recreation district. We are fairly cheap but have a limited number of classes. We do pretty good at keeping white blets to their first test (3 to 6 months). I would guess about 85% that start. However, overall student retention isn't all that great. Of 25 students that start, maybe one or two goes all the way to black belt. I'm not sure if this is a good average over all. I know that this is a broad question but what stragies do you use? For the students out there: what keeps you comming back? Thanks Robert Martin ------------------------------ From: Dwight D Parker Date: Sat, 30 Sep 2000 09:25:23 -0600 Subject: the_dojang: Re: The_Dojang-Digest V7 #627 Regarding the delima which Troy mentioned in his last post. I can only sympathize with him, as I have had to train in several different styles over the past ten years, primarily because of moving, and then not being able to find another school of the previous style in the new town in whichI live. I have hopefully overcome that problem by taking up Taekwondo two cities back! Regardless of where I have been, there has always been a Taekwondo school available for me to train in. I would also like to thank those who emailed me privately with advice on what to look for in a new school. It was helpful and I think I am in a good situation now. Jim Palmer has been working on it all summer, and it finally launched this Sept. It is looking great, and I only expect it to get better. http://www.grandmaster.cc:7248/technique.gmcc I did a few video clips for Jim this summer and you can find them on this weeks Technique of the Week, and others under Self-defense. Jim, Keep up the work on a great site! For those who have not seen it yet, check it out.
