Hwang Kee then chose the name "TSD/MDK", but many of his upper level students and instructors felt that TKD was the future and joined the TKD movement and became TKD/MDK, both of which exist to this day in one form, or name, or another. Go figure. In Mississippi, if you are stopped and found to be carrying an UNLOADED gun in your car, you are advised to load it immediately, and then written a citation for being a moron...If you are carrying martial arts "stuff" (chuks, tonfa. sword, shurikens, rubber chicken, etc.) you are carried off to jail....J. Unfortunately I had move shortly after for work in a new, much smaller city that only has a couple of martial art clubs. None of which have Hapkido. I now train with one of the Taekwondo clubs and I'm looking to start teaching Hapkido classes within that club (I'm just waiting for approval from the executive). My problem is I want to continue my personal development in Hapkido. I will teach Hapkido and continue practicing what I have already learned. But the question is "Where do I go from here?" Are there any good resources for black belt level training in Hapkido? What about patterns and forms? What about further testing and advancement? Any guidance or suggestions from those Hapkido practitioners on the list would be appreciated. Thanks, Troy Charsley tcharsley@sympatico.ca >> Hi Troy, I found myself in a very similar situation when I moved from a big city to a small one. I found myself driving 400 miles to train in Hapkido on weekends with my original Hapkido Master. I decided to attend a seminar given by Master John Pellegrini, a Hapkido Master that created his own system called Combat Hapkido. His organization has a video tape series and he gives seminars almost every weekend. With my Hapkido background, his video tapes and attending about 8 seminars per year, (he travels frequently to the mid west), and a willing partner, I have been able to keep up my Hapkido skills and advance within his system. His system is also recognized by the Korean KiDo Hae, so credentials and advancement arent a concern. The website for the International Combat Hapkido Federation is www.ichf.com. There is a seminar schedule as well as any other info you might need on it. It may be worth a look. Sheer love of TaeKwonDo. There is also the fact that my instructor makes classes fun and interesting. We have a small, close knit class. We laugh a lot and learn a lot from each other. Not only are we classmates, but we are also friends, and do things together outside of training. This contributes to the reasons I love TaeKwonDo, and is part of what keeps me coming back.
