They had been married for six years and had one son, Jacob. Roger Lewis asked that I keep Jim Mahan and Jacob in my thoughts and prayers...and I ask that all of you add your prayers to mine for the family. I can't stop laughing, between the granola eater comment and McD's survey I am laughing so hard I think I am going to puke. I guess I have a simple mind. Someone was asking about forms in a mpeg format. Ron Bain's website has a bunch of TKD forms that look pretty cool so you might want to check it out. What does eating granola and being a pacifist have to do with one another? HA,HA,HA,HA,HA you guys crack me up. About knee's have you tried glucosimine and chondroitin(spelling on both)? My knees dislocate on a regular basis but if I take these supplements they do fine. "And if a person can't fall with ease and grace he/she should simply not train in such an art, but stick to a gentler approach." FIRST...I have to agree with people like "Dakin" and "William U-K" on this one. This may just be the military and "Smith" in me coming out...but...Don't dish it out if you can't take it! How can you learn to effectively take someone down, or teach such a skill, if you don't know what it feels like to be taken down? One thing that we do in our class, and I really like it, is to feel the technique before we try it. With this I am talking about jointlocks and pressure points, etc... However, falling is the first technique that is taught in our class, as directed by the Founder Dr. He-Young Kimm. The person is taught from the ground up! By this I mean the student is taught how to roll over fowards and backwards from a kneeling position. After they master this and gain their confidence they are taught from a crouched position, then an upright position, etc, etc...T H E B A S I C S!!! If a person cannot take a fall I too believe that this person should pursue a less "body pounding" art. There are plenty of "striking" arts out there that do not require you to be thrown to the mat on a consistant basis. SECOND...Prostituted Arts...All arts have been and will continue to be prostituted! This is not as bad as you think. Think about it. If Jujutsu was not prostitued we would not have Judo, Aikido, Hapkido, Yudo and several other Do's in our lives. What about the Chinese Arts...They would be the biggest pimps in the world! Karate "Empty Hand" right? One of the original symbol's for (Kara) meant Chinese...So, Karate "Chinese Hand." Brought to the Okinawan's by Chinese Merchants. Tang Soo Do is called "Korean Karate" by some. So, Tan Soo Do "Korean Chinese Hand!" Where does all the madness end? First some of you were biting and scratching over Hwa Rang Do/Tang Soo Do/Kido Hae...Now we are reduced to "Pimping the Arts!" In the words of one the greatest speakers of our time, "CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG...CAN WE...CAN WE GET ALONG!" Can I get a witness.... ------------------------------ From: Ken McDonough Date: Tue, 10 Oct 2000 04:15:19 -0700 (PDT) Subject: the_dojang: Re: Overreaction vs. Need to know =GM Rogers GM Rogers asked: Response: First, your the GM so no need to apologize to a mere mortal. Second, no I believe you had a legitimate request. Whether you receive an adequate response is another issue. Having pushed various individual's buttons in the past on my emotionally laden statements, I understand how you can elicit a response when you criticize anyone's training, art, or philosophy. Hence, I have learned to use humor to assuage all readers. Then again you can't please everyone. Many people do not understand the time and effort high ranking individuals have placed into their respective arts. I do since I have traveled a similar but different path in other endeavors. So if someone where to attack my blood, sweat, and tears I would similarly react. This is why I do admire the dedication people have placed in their art. I only wish I would have stuck to one or two arts for a coupla decades. Then I could be called The Worthy One. Anyway, I went to the car dealer yesterday to look at a Camaro Convertible SS. Heard they are discontinuing them. $32,000 ? Man, how can you afford a nice new car. Guess I have to stick to rebuilding older ones. Conjuring a few stories in my head right now. The themes of martial arts, romance, and third world countries are now melding into a good story. More to follow. Off to swimming and the track. Cheers, McD... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get Yahoo! Every block was meant to be an attack. Master Y.J. Chung used to say that you punish your opponent with your block to the point that he hesitates when he throws a punch or kick because he knows what is going to happen when he does, and then you finish him off. I am now pure Hapkido and have been for many years but I think that competitive tournament TKD is the worst thing that ever happened to TKD. Just my opinion but when you reform your art to score points instead of using it for self defense then the original techniques get somewhat skewed and loose their true purpose.
