A very drunk patron at a bar is trying to impress everyone with his fighting ability. "I am trained in every hand-to-hand combat there is," he says. To further prove his point, he walks up to a man sitting at the bar and hits him behind the neck! "Karate chop from China," he says. The poor man gets off the floor and sits in his seat, saying nothing. The big man hits him again. "Judo from Japan." The man once again picks himself up off the floor and continues sipping his drink. The man walks up to him and hits him again. "That's a nerve pinch from Korea." After a few minutes, the man is able to move again. Instead of getting back on his bar stool he walks out. Ten minutes later he walks in with a large board in his hands and hits the drunk with the board. The man looks down at his tormenter and says, "Two-by-four from Sears." _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. What you will usually >see is a number of "adjustments" as they move INTO the stance. In the real >world of martial arts the stance would have been worked on so long and so >much that they should be able to get into a perfectly tuned stance in a >single move. I practice Taekwondo but could not resist the impulse to respond to this little barb. I watch my instructors at EVERY class hammer on beginners and advanced students alike the importance of proper STANCE, be it forward, horse, back, etc. I would love for you to come to the little Dojang I train at in Great Bend, KS and ask the students there to show you a forward stance. You would see NO fidgeting, fussing or moving around. What you WOULD see, from the lowliest white belt, to the highest ranked person in the room, would be a smooth, crisp, balanced movement into a forward stance. I guess that means that we are in "the real world" of martial arts... (thank god for that!) .. Basics.... I have spent many a class moving up and down the room in a forward stance over and over and over and over...I learn something each and every time. No lack of BASICS at our Dojang, we work on them constantly. Not sure what sort of students you are referring to, but judging from the posts to this list I have seen about training regimens I suspect the vast majority of the folks here work on the BASICS just as often. I'd like to understand your point, but I just don't get it. Denigrating folks will not turn them into good martial artists, TEACHING them will ! >But since this IS an Aikido group, Last I knew this was a KOREAN martial arts list, and also last I checked Aikido was a Japanese art. Are you sure you are criticizing the right list? >"see" through their hakamas If my wife caught me doing this I'd be sliced and diced !!!!
