And as for country, Garth Brook's "Standing Outside the Fire" and " We Shall Be Free" can be pretty uplifting as well. Good luck! Wearing a leather jacket was making a statement. A mix of memories from those days of proms and football games and friends going off to Viet Nam. Lorr> Response: The internet sure brings distant people closer. In the late sixties I started my first martial arts classes in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey. I am trying to recall why I started. Had something to do with being a skinny runt who lost too many fights. The school was near Lodi, New Jersey where the boys from Paramus would sneak into on Friday night to try to pick up the girls. For those who may not know, Lodi was primarily Italian at the time. Italian women were considered very desireable (note: not demeaning any nationality. I went after the Jewish girls). The school was a small store front building run by an ex-GI. It was a Japanese based school taught in a disciplined manner. I had to take two buses to get there since I did not have my driver's license yet. Here I am several decades later still taking martial arts classes-- now with my 2 sons. Last night I attended class with my 12 year old. The instructor is trying to motivate me by telling me my sons are "...passing you up." Nice try Sensei ! I can still do the running jump kicks, running round house kicks, but getting a little lame on the jumping back kicks. White older men can't Jump ! Motivation: I am certain readers here use motivational tricks to get them to push a little harder or get off the couch to go to class. I do the same thing. Sometimes I use a bad life experience or an observation to tell myself that things could be much worse. Fair Lawn, NJ= Do you know Sheila Sklavar ? She was a cheerleader at Fair Lawn High School. She broke up with me, and when Fair Lawn High played Paramus High I looked at her doing her cheerleading routines. She was teasing me with those short cheerleader skirts. This motivated me to score 15 points in one quarter. Motivation is part of the "Basics." ! Have a pleasant weekend. "Be safe out there." I would recommend that technique in a practical situation for a person with really beefy hands. The ATA supports the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation by participating in the "Board Breaks for the Cure." Our school will be doing the break-a-thon on Saturday, the 21st, but we are going to be on local television this coming Sunday, the 15th to promote it.
