With the feet about a >shoulder width and 1/2 apart Sounds like your instructor knows the basics of this stance.....most people have that back foot facing 90 degrees out, meaning they have to drag it or turn it and then move it forward (one of the giveaways an attack is coming in fighting practice). However, the feet should be no more or less than shoulder width. This way, if you are kicked in the groin you can simply fold your thighs together to protect your testicles....any wider and you might not have the ability to do this...and also it makes moving forward a tad more clumsy. Right on.... b ------------------------------ From: "S. H. Wee" Date: Sun, 15 Oct 2000 15:02:32 +0800 Subject: the_dojang: RE: The_Dojang-Digest V7 #664 Dear Carsen, I agreed with you. During the last few thousands years of Chinese history, meaning of a character do evolved and might meant different thing in different dynasty. You have to look at the period it was used. They tend to get slippery very fast, especially if there is dust on the floor. The best method I have been suggested is to use my sweat to wet the shoes sole. After the sole has been moistened you can hear the adherence of the shoes. But as soon as the sole has dried, you are back we slippery shoes. Does someone has a more permanent solution? Of course cleaning the sole helps but still... Slippery shoes are annoying while doing the training and sparring but I find very dangerous when doing flexibility exercise where I want to be in control. I had tried in the past without shoes but that resulted for me with very serious athletes foot ( Is it correct in English ? ). Thus I am too sensitive there to even consider training without shoes. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dominic. ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Sun, 15 Oct 2000 8:56:16 PDT Subject: the_dojang: . ------------------------------ End of The_Dojang-Digest V7 #665 ******************************** It's a great day for Taekwondo!
