Do you disagree that Mr. Pelligrini usurped the name Hapkido without paying his due to the art? How do you think the Gracies's would feel if you started advertising Combat Gracie Juijitsu, after a few years of practice? Along with Mark, I too think it is unfortunate that Mr. Pelligrini decided to usurp the name of Hapkido. I would think the action incorrect if he had chosen Jiujitsu, Sambo, Wrestling or any other art he was not a Master in >> Yes, you are mistaken...I didnt beg the question about opionions on Pellegrini. And you are also mistaken about his background...he has been training in Hapkido for more than a few years....he was given an 8th Dan in Hapkido my GM In Sun Seo. ------------------------------ From: "Robert Martin" Date: Sat, 21 Oct 2000 10:18:02 -0600 Subject: the_dojang: Re: basic names/Combat Hapkido Can we do the same with the combat hapkido thing too? (different angle on the 'stance' thing) Seems like that as the arts grow further from their origin, their roots, we see more concern for things like stance, weight placement, where toes are pointing, how deeply the knees are bent, etc. You don't see much of that in Funakoshi's early teachings. You don't see it in arts like Eskrima which are pure combat arts, i.e. they are not necessarily trying to help you become a better more enlightened person. There you see more (1) this is the concept, (2) this is the/a desired result, (3) now make it happen the best way you can given the body God has given you and the limitations you've been 'blessed' with. Watch some of the old footage of Ueshiba teaching Aikibudo/Aikijutsu, prior to the creation of Aikido. I suspect we'll never get a straight response from 'b', especially given his various nom de plumes. Over the years he as openly been Bill Knittle, William Upton-Knittle, An Tsu, An Tzu, and b. And while apparently at Black Belt magazine in the 60s he used yet a different name. So, who are we really talking to? :) Just let it go...> Response: Agreed. I have tried to use a little humor and perpetuated the situation. Just know I have no negative feelings toward "b". Who am I to question his identity. I thought he was the Riddler or the Joker or maybe even Slim Pickens. But I have been wrong. I think I know who I am, but then there are times I fantasize about being someone else. In this confusing world we sometimes forget who we really are. But when I get a full night's rest, I wake up knowing who I am. At least I think I know who I am. On the other hand, do I really know me...or still trying to get to know me ? In sum, back to martial arts issues. For example, did Bruce Lee respect Chuck Norris as a martial artist and this is why he was in one of his films ? How good was Chuck in his hey day? Cheers, McD... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Messenger - Talk while you surf!
