I wasn't trying to be demeaning or anything, just trying to express the changes she is going through that had until receintly, not been an issue. Unfortunatelly, as someone else suggested, we don't have older female members to help guide her. I have 4 girls right now between the ages of 10-12, until a couple of weeks ago had several more that age. The rest are young boys or adult males. Again, thanks for everyone's advice. In Japanese martial arts, when the instructor gives an instruction, the student indicates he or she understood by replying either, "Hai!" or "Hai Sensie!" or "Ooss!" Is there an equivalent to this in Korean? What would be a short phrase in Korean to indicate, "Yes, I understand," or, "Yes Sir" ? They are teaching kids' karate locally and from what I can tell they are connected with the Trinity Fellowship out of Oklahoma and Texas, a charismatic Christian group based on organization around cells. I'm wondering if they are connected to a martial arts federation, or if they are just doing Christian outreach by selling belts and uniforms rather than cookies and cakes. Anybody heard of them before? For you average studio owners out there :), does that sound about right? ~55 hours per week? Just curious... Ray Terry That's pretty close, sometimes more, depending on weekend events. phil ------------------------------ From: Kim Helen Jones Date: Fri, 27 Oct 2000 15:10:36 -0500 Subject: the_dojang: Re: Turtle shells [Been out of the loop because of homework...but this caught my eye.] Just getting out of the brunt of the main growing stage, I found it really difficult to "keep things in place." It's only a limiting factor if you don't take the appropriate steps to protect (and restrain) the chest. We can use the same type hogu as males, wear v-neck uniforms and the whole 9 yards, but it's just a little different in how we females handle protecting ouresves. She should probably get the turtle shells sports bra from Century. (Just make sure someone follows the care instructions properly - don't throw it in the dryer.) If she wants to get a female groin pad (Heaven forbid any female gets nailed below the belt, but it DOES hurt...), that's her call. I want my body to be semi-together when I grow wise in my autumn years...the female groin pad is very much uncomfortable though. It takes a lot of getting used to...but it's well worth it. There certainly are no limitations to being female...but there are adjustments we have to make that men don't have to. (Besides, we're the ones with a higher threshold for pain...heheheheh.) - -- Kim Jones *joneskh@purdue.edu* Purdue University, Freshman Engineering http://icdweb.cc.purdue.edu/~joneskh ICQ: 52828008 AIM: Adidas Chocobo ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Fri, 27 Oct 2000 14:15:48 PDT Subject: the_dojang: . ------------------------------ End of The_Dojang-Digest V7 #693 ******************************** It's a great day for Taekwondo!
