I teach a traditional style of Hapkido which integrates weapons beginning with 1st Degree BB and adds a weapon with each subsequent rank after that. I have often considered the possibility of utilizing modern technology to assess the efficacy of weapons/counter-weapons techniques in Hapkido. The usual approach is to use markers, or simply training implements and attempt to assess the effectiveness of the technique after the fact. My thought was that pressure sensitive units which include an auditory cue and which can be adjusted for sensitivity would be a real boon. Can the areas of sensitivity be relocated with any real ease? In Hapkido there are some targeted areas (ie. Collarbone, Kidneys) which I understand are not legal for competition. Could a helmet be conveniently wired into the system? Can different target areas be cued differently? In the application of weapons use, would the units be durable enough to withstand a strike from a staff or Muk Guem (wooden sword) or must weapons use be limited to a juk-to (bamboo sword) only? Is there a price point to be considered, or is the price variable to the number of strike-points and other construction concerns? Thanks for listening to my questions. Needless to say I am more than a little interested. Your help is always appreciated.
