Does anyone have some suggestions or things to look for? Any good Judo uniform should serve just fine. I guy HSU's for my guys. They are cheaper than the Century gi's yet tougher and higher quality. See: http://www.hsujudo.com If you want a good Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu style gi, they are much more expensive, but there are none better than Howard Combat Kimonos. See: http://www.howardliu.com Howard is a really nice guy and gives excellent service. Here's a list of other BJJ gi suppliers: http://ouano.com/pages/links.htm#equip ------------------------------ From: TNTcombatives@aol.com Date: Sat, 11 Nov 2000 14:13:11 EST Subject: the_dojang: grappling uniforms I have had good luck with the basic Century student uniform. If you will be doing more energetic arts (like competitive judo) then go for the Swain Instructor or competitor uniform. I have 5 in various colors (colors seem to keep well) and they stood up well to everything I have done in them. Cost should be about $35 for the student, and about $60 for the competitor. They have more expensive ones, but unless you are a pro, dont bother. There are also some other brands out there (mizumo, krugans) but they are very expensive at $125 and up. On another note, it seems that companies only sell white pants with them. The pants on Judo/JJ uniforms are cut well, and I find they are more comfortable than TKD ones. Problem: Does anyone know where to find JJ style pants in any colors other than white that will hold up under training? I have thoroughly enjoyed this digest and the many informative dialogues that are posted daily. I now have a question of my own, I am doing a research project and could use some help! I am trying to find out the belt systems (i.e. gup/level & color - from white to black) that different dojangs/styles (i.e. Taekwondo, Tang Soo Do, Hapkido, etc) utilize within their individual schools. I am also interested in the minimum length of time in grade that each school requires, for each belt, before an instructor permits/recommends that a student may test for the next level. I realize that much of the time-in-grade depends on an individual student's progress. With all things equal, if a student is progressing at an adequate/proficient rate, what is the minimum time? You may email me directly at: Camalfi@msn.com I sincerely appreciate any help! Train hard and have fun!
