Message about Team Trials. I want to thank everyone for their help and support with this year's TKD program which finished with the AAU Team Trials. This year's Team Trials in Houston, Texas, were resoundingly successful. We had outstanding competitions which were adjudicated by some of the best officials in the nation. Congratulations to all those who participated. I want to thank those of you who helped with the preparation, execution, and competed in our PNW tournaments last year as well as your participation at the AAU National's, New Orleans, LA. Those events culminated this year with our First Team Trials in Houston, TX. As a organization (AAU and association (PNW we had a good year. The AAU's Team will truly be representatives of our organization. Each Team member had been an AAU national champion or had to beat a national champion in order to advance as a Team member to represent us. This method ensures that we have a valid AAU Team representative. ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Thu, 16 Nov 2000 19:48:54 PST Subject: the_dojang: Upcoming Seminar Forwarding... Ray - --------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "J. R. West" Subject: Upcoming Seminar Dear friends: I am attempting to give everyone enough advance notice to clear their calendars for our International HapKiDo Seminar on Feb. 23-25th 2001. I am told that Master Hal Whalen, 7th dan from Quincy MA will be joining us this time and I am hoping that his student, Master Mike McCarty, 5th dan, will make it as well. As of right now I have received instructor confirmations from Master Rich Hodder, 7th dan, of Steamboat Springs, CO, Master Geoff Booth 7th dan, of Sydney, Australia; Master Jim Allison ,5th dan, of Cornelia, GA; Master Jere Hilland, 5th dan, of Bright, IN; Master Perry Lyons, 5th dan candidate, of Littleston, PA, Master Instructor Joe Borucki, 4th dan, of Hampstead, MD; Master Instructor Jim Nichols 4th dan of Lake George, NY, Master instructor Cliff Ott, 4th dan, of New Orleans, LA and many others. Due to the large number of expected attendees, we are attempting to arrange a large Ball Room at a local hotel for the Saturday portion of the seminar with the Friday and Sunday classes to be held at our dojang. I will send out an early flyer this month with hotel information and other facts and figures. I am expecting about 250 participants, so make your travel and hotel reservations early. We will have "Woods Family Restaurant" for our after Saturday feast at the outrageous price of $6.00 per person (I know that the Australians will be happy) and we will arrange something for Friday nite for those that are interested. If you have any questions, please let me know. By the way, the airport identifier for Jackson is JAN so you don't end up in Jackson Hole, Jacksonville, or Jackson, TN. If you don't want to rent a car, we will arrange for someone to pick you up at the airport and take you back, and remember that you are more than welcome to come early and stay late. Thanx for your time...JRW ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Thu, 16 Nov 2000 20:53:57 PST Subject: the_dojang: more AAU TKD info Forwarding... Yours in Taekwondo, Bill Dewart ------------------------------ From: james joseph case Date: Fri, 17 Nov 2000 01:22:30 -0500 (EST) Subject: the_dojang: posterior pelvic tilt and the splits It has recently come to my attention that one of the reasons that I have so many problems with some stretches comes from the way my body is built. In particular, I have had a lot of difficulty over the years with the splits and more specifically, splits when sitting down. After stretching off and on for the better part of 4 years, my splits seem to still stop at a whopping 90 degrees. This week, as part of our warm-up, we sat as close to a splits position as we could and stretched our upper body muscles and then spread a bit more and did some other stretches. The end result of this was about 4 consecutive minutes in that position. Since my pelvis has a natural slight tilt to the rear (most people tilt forward, if at all) I had to spend a great deal of energy in my abdominal muscles just to try and lean forward. While most other people can naturally relax into the stretch, my weight naturally sinks backward and I spend all my energy tring to just hold the position and get very little stretch out of it. My question is this: Does anyone else have this problem and know what I can do to fix it? I'm getting very frustrated with my flexibility training since this weight shift seems to make me work harder for less of a stretch than I should be getting. Thanks.
