I am curious about "pressing" moves in Tae Kwon Do Poomse. For example the first movements forward in Taebeck Poomse where the hand rotates slowly as if moving something that is resisting. (forgive me if I describe this poorly as I am just learning this form). What is the application for these motions ? In most Poomse the application for a particular movement is fairly straightforward and virtually all the previous poomse I have learned have rapid motions with easily identified applications (at least once they are pointed out). Watching the upper ranks perform their poomse has shown me that such movements become more common as rank increases. Why? I will of course ask my instructor, just haven't had a chance yet. But I always like to hear the opinions of others. Thanks much in advance, Off to Friday night class for a dose of sweat, fun and frolic!!! If so, attacking this area one-leg-at-a-time, and with a bent knee while extending these muscles, may spare your back unneeded stress. You may also wish to try extensions from a "roman-chair" to strengthen your lower back and realign your pelvis towards vertical. Bon Chance. And I am sure that there are those more knowlegable (like my wife) who will take me to task for these thoughts, but here goes. With respect to the backward pelvic tilt, have you been checked by a chiropractor. Assuming there is no skeletal anomoly, a new and improved abdominal routine may help. For this, you really should get the advice of someone with greater than average knowlege. As to the width of your split, there is also a question of pelvic construction. X-rays of my hip show that the socket of the hip "wraps around " the ball of the femur. I can go so far, and then the femur is stopped by the pelvis. I will never be able to do a full split. Just a few thoughts. Let me know how you make out. There has been much "talk" on web recently about a merger (again) between the ITF and "WTF" (I put the "" around WTF because I think these folks mean between the ITF and Kukki related groups. What are some of the opinions of members of this list? Could a merger work? What form would it take? How would sparring change for both groups? What about rank holders? (ITF doesn't certify masters until 7th Dan. Kukkiwon does it at 4th or 5th Dan?) Patterns? Not sure what else to add.
