The Initials are the designator for the North Chicago Veterans Affairs Medical Center in No Chicago, Illinois where I work. It has nothing to do with MA and is just an artifact of using a government system. Thanks for asking. I hope nobody is put off by this. I wouldn't mind hearing about additional opportunities if you decide to do a repeat performance. That goes for anyone else who may have such an experience in the works. Its great to know that people are still keeping the traditional arts going. BTW: While I have you on the line, I have not run into "Poh Bahk Sool" before. How about a quick run down on this? If you have time I wouldn't mind hearing about the National Korean Martial Arts Assn. as well. I get regular questions about MA resources through my website so it helps to know whats out there. I would venture to say that anyone who has been around Korean Martial Arts such as Kuk Sool Won, Hapkido , HwaRangDo, HanMuDo, ect. have or should have been exposed to these techniques. I read that one martial art teaches these techniques at 4th Dan. Personally I feel that all weapons are an extension of your body and should be practiced as such. All to often we get caught up with wanting more before we have mastered less. The techniques do not need to be elaborate or complex they only need to be effective. I agree with Grandmaster West, the PoBokSool are some of the more difficult techniques to teach due to the length of the rope or belt. There is no standard that one can adhear to when it comes to this unique weapon. However this is still in the curriculum for many of the affore mentioned Martial Arts and I know that they will continue to be part of the Chun Ki Hapkido as long as I have the opportunity to practice and share them with anyone who shows a desire to learn. Take your belt or a white belt that you have laying around and practice some of your basic HoSinSool and in a short time you should begin to understand techniques and develop the ones you like best. This will keep PoBokSool alive and may generate interest bringing you to someone more skilled than you to help you better understand this particular weapon and its uniqueness. Tradition grows out of interest, but begins with an idea. Train to live and live to Train. I am interested in anyone's opinion on their preference, but I am more interested in the reasoning behind the vertically positioned punch. I am currently taking Tae Kwon Do and tried Wing Chun last winter. We were taught to punch vertically, hitting with the bottom 3 nuckles. This allows you to hit harder (we also stood in a variation on the riding horse form with our knees together, what my instructor described as "pretending to be milking a goat"). When punching horizontally as we do in TKD you hit with you're first 2 nuckles and there is more strain on the wrist, but with training this can be just as effective as a vertical punch. Does anyone else remember this? I thought it was interesting... _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web.
