I have a tendancy to hold my breathing while doing a kick or a combination of kicks, especially during sparring, and kicking the bag. I know it is not right bec it just doesn't feel right, it also prevents me from properly using the 'ki hap', the problems is that I cannot seem to avoid this unless I totally concentrate on the breathing, which ends up leaving my kicking and stepping down the other end of the road ie: close to crap. Are there some breathing exercises that one could do or maybe some sort of other technique that could help me solve this? I am sure that we will do even better next time with Team USA. At least tkd did better than the US Judo Team. ------------------------------ From: LAHapkido@aol.com Date: Mon, 4 Dec 2000 16:57:59 EST Subject: the_dojang: Re: The_Dojang-Digest V7 #744 Mr. Sims, I can assure you that Grandmaster Choi, will not mind your call and that he will do his best to answer your questions. I think that you should contact Doju Ji, Han Jae, Grandmaster Bong Soo Han, Grandmaster Chang Chin IL, as well as Grandmaster Wollmerhauser all of these people studied directly under Grandmaster Choi, Young Sul and after you speak to each of them draw you on conclusion. Just a suggestion. I hope that you find what you are looking for and you become satisfied with the answer. The reason for adding grandmaster Wollmerhauser, is that he is the only american on record to have studied directly under Grandmaster Choi, prior to his death and maybe he has more insight into the relation between Takeda and Choi. train To Live and Live to Train Kwan Jang Dan Rogers ------------------------------ From: "Sims, Bruce W. To answer your question about Level 4 I have had a problem with the photography, specifically the difficulty in getting an auto-wind 35mm to catch specific points with the kicks. Ideally it would have been better to VT the techniques then tease out specific frames but there were several technical problems that could only be addressed by retaining a subcontractor to undertake that specific task and there was still no guarantee of the same level of definition. The short answer is that DOCHANG JOURNAL - Level 4 is scheduled to come out in about 10 days. There was even some interest expressed of providing the 4 Guep Levels as a box-set. As always it's a matter of what is in the best interests of the student. Thanks for your interest. If so what do you think of the system, organization, and techniques? I realize no system is a be all to end all, but it seems Combat Hapkido blends well with my TKD training adding take-downs, joint-locks, and throws to my kicking and punching skills helping me to become a well rounded artist. MT & the Korean arts share a looser stance that facilitates moving around better, & unlike TKD, MT has an in-your-face approach which lends itself well to the HKD philosophy of using kicks to set up a close-range attack. ~Daniel > >From: Beungood@aol.com >Date: Wed, 29 Nov 2000 19:36:32 EST >Subject: the_dojang: Re kicks ranges > > > Hapkido joint locks > > judo throws and Muay Thai kickboxing techniques you would cover most of >the > > important ranges. > >How would you describer the differences in Kicking style between Hapkido >practioners and Muy Thai fighters?
