The only striking one would in a situation like that would be in order to create an opening to run through. If you aren't running, it's because someone has ahold of you, in which case, you're are grappling. Do you know how to fight in the clinch? Do you practice those skills? Do you know how to fight on the ground when you've been tackled? Do you practice those skills? Any self defense system that doesn't include spending at least 30% clinch fighting and groundfighting is built upon fantasy. Relying on such a system for self defense is akin to relying on the lottery for one's old age retirement. ------------------------------ From: ABurrese@aol.com Date: Sat, 16 Dec 2000 13:08:32 EST Subject: the_dojang: Re: JAMA multiple oponents article >>'Journal of Asian Martial Arts'.... It contained a >>very in-depth article by a Hapkido exponent regarding >>various defenses against multiple opponents. I'll >.reserve judgment, and just pass the info along. I saw the new JAMA on the stand today and took a quick look. I didn't have time to read the entire thing, but what it looks like is a portion of Marc Tedeschi's new book on HKD. He is the one who just released "Hapkido: Traditions, Philosphy, Technique" It has gotten some positive reviews, and it looked like a portion of the book was used for the article. The book is on my Xmas list, so maybe I will be able to review it soon. The title is 'Muye Dobo Tongji: The Comprehensive Illustrated Manual of Martial Arts of Ancient Korea', and the author is Sang H. Kim. Looked interesting but I gave it a pass as my wallet is very tight this holiday season. Anyway, some of you may want to check out the description over at Amazon...may be something worth picking up. Interestingly enough, Amazon only lists a hardcover edition, but the one in the store was a softcover. Just wanted to give people a heads up. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ From: ChunjiDo@aol.com Date: Sat, 16 Dec 2000 21:11:37 EST Subject: the_dojang: Re: aol 6.0 In a message dated 12/16/2000 7:40:45 AM Pacific Standard Time, the_dojang-owner@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com writes: << If I properly understand this situation, those using AOL 6.0 will need to report this as a bug, which it clearly is.
