After all the only proof we have of your existance is data sent across the electronic ether......." I suppose that WOULD go a long way towards explaining the TEXAS INSTRUMENTS label on my do-bok and a 8th Degree BB cert signed by Bill Gates. So who do I have to see to get someone to plug in the Kung Fu program that Keaneu Reeves used in MATRIX? Or are you telling me that I just get to have my clock cleaned by Lawrence Fishburne without having the perks of meeting the Lady In Red! Time to close-out. Tron and I are going to take our bikes for a spin. Thanks a lot for the tip! I used the URL and was not able to find the website there. On the other hand your website is quite an expereince all in its own. I will take a run through it and see if I can find the link to that on-line magazine you mentioned and thanks again for the help. Best Wishes, Bruce ------------------------------ From: RDNHJMS@aol.com Date: Tue, 26 Dec 2000 14:58:55 EST Subject: the_dojang: Hwrangdo & Hapkido Origins <> Great question Jose. Good Korean mythology, whether it be about martial arts or pottery, must include two things: Monks and Mountains. And boy have I heard some good mythology. Dojunim Ji Han Jae has told me that Hwarangdo is Hapkido, and Kuk Sool Won is Hapkido. This is where they have their roots. Now they are different arts with a different set of basics and philosophy. GM Myung Jae Ok has also told me about the roots of Hoi Jeon Moo Sool (he and his brother studied Hapkido under GM Ji in the 1960's). I have my own personal opinion as to why the history of Korean martial arts continues to change and develop, but to air that opinion here would serve little purpose except to irritate some and please others. I did hear Doju Ji and Dr. Kimm discuss this topic (Korean Martial Arts history) once, and Dr. Kimm agreed with Dojunim that America is a free country, and people can say whatever they want. I agree. I like the term coined by my training partner in deference to our greater age and girth: "The Dumpling Warriors." (Although we are a bit less "dumpled" than when we started out seven years ago - myself at age 42 after a 12-year layoff.) Diane ------------------------------ From: "Patrick L" Date: Tue, 26 Dec 2000 12:22:42 -0800 Subject: the_dojang: Hwrangdo & Hapkido Origins Dear Jose' With all due respect to parties mentioned in your post . . . Do not put too much stock in history that is yet to become history. There have been more tellings of different histories of these arts than we should have to keep track of ... but those pushy historians just won't let sleeping dogs lie. :) If you think a Japanese/Korean blend is superior to a Japanese/Korean/Chinese blend then study Hapkido, if you don't, then study either Kuk Sool or Hwa Rang Do. Use logic and compassion to guide your choice. Remember that Masters, Grand and even Supreme Grand, are human.
