It's not nearly so simple as you think, especially with the various organizations having motives to give incomplete (to say the least) histories. ===== Grant D. In fact, if it were a true Zen Koan there would be no rational answer to it and the point would be to get you to abandon or transcend logical, linear thinking. Could the lone hand be the sound of one hand clapping? Still, I thought I would throw in my two cents as long as others are taking a shot at interpreting the gesture. Could the hand with the five fingers extended represent the mind and the five senses? At our Dojang it appears our Master is away but everyone else is still training. We have been closed for the public holidays Christmas, Boxing day and New Years day and are open as usual apart from that. We have been having about 30-40 students per class. Which for holiday period is quite good. ------------------------------ From: "Patrick L" Date: Tue, 02 Jan 2001 16:32:39 -0800 Subject: the_dojang: What is Hapkido Mr. Miller, >There are VERY few true Hapkido schools and organizations left. Help me out with a name. Are you perhaps thinking Pelligrini? =:) >It is important to learn from the past so as not to make the same mistakes >our ancestors made< Some GM's are not done making "mistakes". Most of the new guard are already making those same mistakes. Remember the question was "What is Hapkido". If you have an answer better than "Whatever GM Ji says" I would like to hear it.
