On the issue of a man, dressed as a Transvestite, and wanting to compete in the women's sparring division: This sort of reminds me of a student in a martial arts class I was taking down on 42nd Street, New York City. Years ago, for those not familiar, 42nd Street was a magnet for pimps, prostitutes, hustlers, transvestites, and other degenerate types (not saying transvestites are degenerates). So this one big strapping dude was heading for the ladies room after class. The instructor said, "Bro, the men's room is on the opposite side of the Dojang...your headed in the wrong direction..." The effeminate transvestite, clad with a protective bra and cup, turned and in a sweet voice stated, "But, I have my mother's features...I want to use the ladies room." The martial arts instructor, extremely quick witted and not missing a beat responded, "You may have your mother's features, but you got your father's fixtures...the men's room is over there !" Ken McD... I will leave for Hong Kong and the Philippines on that note. Remember, keep your beer cold, your men or women hot, and may all your ups and downs be in bed. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I would say that the weight categories apply to your actual biology, and that the person should compete in the male divisions. =Sarah Pride= ------------------------------ From: "Anne Skjold" Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2001 10:12:46 -0600 Subject: the_dojang: Sparring a transvestite I'll have to go with this, If the women that he/she is competing against are comfortable sparring a "biological" man, fine. If not he/she should spar in the division stated by his biological attributes. I have seen the Krav Maga knife defense video, "On the Edge". I don't know if that is the Darren Levine tape or not. On the Edge is available from Amazon.com, so that might ring a bell for you. It is very basic, pretty good to fair, I'd say. Somewhat similar to the RKD (Reactive Knife Defense) video that I posted a review for last week. The KM approach is even less sophisticated than the RKD approach, and RKD is pretty basic. The KM tape doesn't seem to be quite as 'edge aware' as I'd like to see it. > What is the best way to practice these techniques?? .?. with a partner.?. :) Seriously, you should use a 'hard' practice knife (i.e. not a rubber one), wear eye protection like racquetball glasses, and practice with INTENTION. By with intention, I mean use power and focus and really try to nail your partner (once you have the basic movements down). Going easy on each other will do no good, IMHO. On the Edge and the RKD tapes show examples of practice drills. Ray - ----------------------------------------------------------- There is already a good precedent to determine in which gender division an athlete must compete: For the Olympics and many sport's official international competitions, actual genetic testing is performed and is the determinant for whether an individual competes as a man or a woman. So, one's actual chromosomal compliment, not what they "feel they are" or what sort of "parts" they may have had surgically removed or installed, is the deciding factor. If you have "XX" chromosomes, you compete as a female; "XY," you compete otherwise. In past Olympic Games, there have been individuals who have entered the woman's division, but were found out to actually be men! ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2001 15:12:47 PST Subject: the_dojang: . ------------------------------ End of The_Dojang-Digest V8 #35 ******************************* It's a great day for Taekwondo!
