I believe that this is generally the crux of the matter although there are some abberations with XXY chromosomes. The issue here is one of practicality given most tournaments don't have the facilities or time to request this sort of extensive testing either before or after the matches. It is considerable easier to request a birth certificate and use that as the basis of decision making. - -Lee Greybeard in Tucson ------------------------------ From: Chereecharmello@aol.com Date: Thu, 18 Jan 2001 10:52:16 EST Subject: the_dojang: Re: The_Dojang-Digest V8 #36 I must admit, I don't trust a video to master self-defense. In world class competition, the men routinely run 100m dash times well under the 10 second mark. On the women's side, they're hard pressed to get it under 11 seconds, with only super-elite runners like Marion Jones posting times under the 11 second mark on a routine basis. A very simple illustration, but a very profound one, nonetheless. On average, men are bigger, stronger, faster, more robust, and more aggressive. I'm sorry, but separate divisions is what allows women to compete to begin with. Imagine a world without separate divisions. Do you really think women can compete on an equal basis with men in the vast majority of competitive sports, and experience any sort of success? I know that if I were a female, I'd WANT separate divisions. I don't consider it a "slight" to women that we have separate divisions...it's just the natural outgrowth of our physical differences. >> New CKC Web Page ------------------------------ From: TaoArt@aol.com Date: Thu, 18 Jan 2001 11:02:06 EST Subject: the_dojang: Women's Self Defense Intensive Guard Up, Inc. is offering a three hour self defense course at the Waltham Athletic Club in Waltham, MA on Sunday, January 28th, from 1-4PM for ages 14 and over. How about the others? Now it seems that grey & white should be progressively harder, but from testing it, it seems to be the other way around. A very simple illustration, but a very profound one, nonetheless. My take on it: I'm wondering how much of this has to do with the depth of competition in men's and women's sports. There are a lot less women still training in sports and therefore the competition is not as fierce as with the men. I've watched women's Olympic swimming in 2000 and women's Olympic t'aekwondo in other years. I've noticed that female athletes are able to continue their competitive career for a longer time than males (ie. can still win in their 30s). My hypothesis is that this is due to the relatively low number of competitors, meaning that these women have not been squeezed out or replaced by younger competitors of the same caliber. I'd say that the next 20 years should see some big improvements in the level of competition for women. Comments? Here in Virginia there is a database maintained by the state police on the internet that gives the name, address and in most instances a photo of anyone convicted of a sex crime. I found this site by doing a search on "sex offender" on the internet. There are a lot of other states that have this also for sex offendors. Try it out for your state. This I use to check up on any instructor and anyone else working with my daughters. Granted this is not a 100% assurity, but it does make things a bit more comfortable. The way I found this was I did a search on "sex offenders" on the Netscape search engine. The results were numerous sites and quite a few states have sites similar to Virginias. On Virginias database you can search the database by zip code or name. It gives you the offenders address, name, aliases, and in most cases a photo. It is great to be able to see if you have any sexual predators in your neighborhood or any that may be working with your children. Currently I have the Krav Maga series put out by Darren Levine. Any comments?? A lot of the techniques are the same blocks and strikes that we use in TKD except put together in a specific method. The basic concept is that you employ some type of release or block while striking back at the same time. After that initial response, you can use a variety of additional strikes if need be (hammer fists, knee strikes, elbows etc.). Steven M.
