It has been a proven fact that we can outdo you any day of the week so, get off your manhood." I'm assuming that this was an attempt at humor, so I'll follow suit in the interests of male/female relations on this fine list. I'll address the comments one at a time: "So, from your standpoint, (ladies..get this) You are saying we cannot kick your ass" Absolutely. I believe the late Andy Kaufman proved this in his infamous inter-gender grappling matches during the late 70's and early 80's. Kaufman, a rather weak physical specimen to say the least, was undefeated in his courageous matches against his genetically inferior opponents. Heaven forbid that a real man like myself had taken part in those matches. I shudder to think the outcome. And before anyone claims that Andy's opponents were not fair representatives of female athleticism...let me just say that I've seen all of the films...and those women were BEASTS. "It has been a proven fact that we can outdo you any day of the week" I can offer no defense on this point, and concede your ability to "outdo" us on a routine basis. Try as I might, I cannot match my wife's unbridled ferocity when it comes to dusting, cooking, sewing, and vacuuming. The difference is TRULY in the genes. Nay, I have totally given in to her superiority in the domestic arts, and no longer acknowledge her nagging cries to "get off my duff, and help out around here". I shall not give that woman the satisfaction of humiliating me again...I VOW IT!!! "get off your manhood" For shame!!! This forum is no place for such rude talk. My "manhood" is my own concern, and I shall tend to it as I see fit, thank you very much. I am sorry if my views offend, but HE has called upon me to preach the gospel of our all-powerful Y chromosome...resistance is futile. Political correctness shall never stand in the way of the TRUTH. I must go now...Jesse Jackson is on the phone...he needs some public relations advice, and Donald Trump is unavailable. *Disclaimer - forwarding of this message may result in huge setbacks to gender relationships...read and distribute at your own peril* :) _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ From: Sarah Pride Date: Thu, 18 Jan 2001 20:50:07 -0600 Subject: the_dojang: Re: The_Dojang-Digest V8 #38 >>>> So, from your standpoint, (ladies..get this) You are saying we cannot kick your ass. It has been a proven fact that we can outdo you any day of the week so, get off your manhood. Donna G. <<<< Yep, absolutely. I agree entirely. Well, maybe not _every_ day. Mondays I usually feel sleepy, lazy, and generally unwilling to get off my rear end. Fridays aren't that great for me either. I just can't _focus,_ y'know? Saturdays and Sundays are for relaxing. I don't feel much like kicking rear on either of those days. So what does that leave? Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. But Tuesday's.... nah. I have my bowling league in the mornings on that day, and my right arm gets a little sore. I wouldn't be able to deliver a peak performance. As for Thursdays, I've always been a bit superstitious about the buggers. For most people it's Friday, but for me it's Thursday. So now that leaves just Wednesday. Sure, I'd take anyone on on a Wednesday. - -Sarah Pride- P.S. Okay, so I don't know how well it'll qualify for a "self-defense" video but Century's expandable baton Basic program should be good. Yes, I too am biased since its my video (and only recently released). I've done the ASP baton long enough, including being and instructor, that I felt there should be something available for those wishing to use the expandable baton for their personal protection. My program is as simple as the ASP version to keep the defendability of its use. Let me know how bad it is. Alas, I inadvertently deleted them. If anyone could rehash this valuable info -via e-mail or by the newsgroup- I would really appreciate it. I'm primarily interested in doing explosive olympic-style lifts that work compound muscle groups (push presses, clean and jerks, deadlifts etc.)about twice a week in the gym. I heard those are best for maximizing speed and power. Thanks again for your help!! Much appreciated! The old match between Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King is sometimes brought up as proof that women can compete, but it was a very close match between the number 1 woman player in the world, at the top of her game, versus a man in his fifties, regardless of how good he once was. There are no weight classes, yet the top female tennis players can't effectively compete with any of the top 100 or so male players. Point sparring negates a lot of the male strength, and might be an area where women can compete. Forms should be unisex. But in Olympic style TKD it is still a long way to go before women can compete on anything close to an equal footing. And being a throwback, it would be hard for me to tee off after a woman and deliver a knockout blow to the head. While in a self-defense situation I don't think I'd be restricted, there's too much conditioning to do that as part of a sport. Am I the only brontosaurus on the list? I think he preferred HKD but taught TKD because of the Olympic representation. He stuck pretty much with TKD which I now regret. My tutor was Spanish but learned HKD and TKD in Latin America in his youth. I believe he is still teaching for the BTCB but has moved away from my old home town. Hope this unrepresentative tale helps. I get more than my share of bad eggs, because we had the misfortune of having a Casino and Young Adult Bar move into the area. To combat this, I have an old standby for bad eggs that has never failed me. First, the idea of not becoming one of my students must come from the applicant. If I bounce them out (last resort), they'll just come back and vandalize the school. Instead, I ask them to come to a more advanced class "so they can get a better grip on our training", get the idea? Next, my Chief Instructor runs an absolute killer workout. After that, I personally "teach" pressure points and joint locks (actually, I simply return to my Dinosour days, and teach a class like we normally used to do run them -- complete with my Jook Do "bad egg beater"). I have yet to see one of these people come back for more, and my students get a kick out of it. BTW, don't forget to have your waiver signed before class begins. One more thing. Canada is blessed with passive people who don't sue. Unless you have a strong martial arts background and fully understand the method and physiology behind the moves, you could be setting yourself up for a let down (or injury!)<<<<< I'm not saying videos are the best way, but there are many martial artists that do not know much about self-defense (but think they do), and a couple people that get together and actually practice, and train hard with things from some of the better videos out there can have a better chance at defending themselves than many black belts out there. Note, important thing here is to actually train and practice, not just watch the videos and think you then know it and can do it. One good set that comes to mind is Jim Grover's "Combatives" from Paladin Press. Three tape set for $99.95. Grover knows his stuff. Many may know him from the Personal Security column in Guns and Ammo magazine.
