The open stretch is particularly well suited to displaying my shocking-pale love handles, along with a nice patch of road-rash on the left one. I think the traditional tops look neater..as in..tidier. Cooler too, from an aesthetic point of view, IMO. I'm sorry if this is something you've covered, Ms Illona, but what style is it that you practice? (Your note implies that its not TKD) - -JW 3rd gup, TKD - --------------------------- From: "T. It is a family business. She is also my senior student at 9th Gup. She is probably the lowest ranking Do Ju in the world . Her philosophy and wisdom are always welcome as we spend many an after training dinner discussing class, philosophy, and goals for our dojang as a business. She has never taken any martial art before, and her insights and responses to classes have improved my teaching skills by leaps and bounds! As 4th Dan, I handle curriculum and teaching, and we synergize ideas on philosophy of the school, and business. Somehow it works . It was very difficult for them, especially when they were younger to seperate my relationship as a father, from my dojang relationship as an instructor. I also catch myself sometimes being a little less understanding with them than with other students. >> >> I train my daughter. She is now 11 1/2 and I have trained her from the age of three. She trained over 6 years before I promoted her to junior black belt. I did not even bring in another instructor. No need to. Have always been very conscious about making sure no one thought there was nepotism in any amount. Since day one, she has held her own in class and every tournament she has ever competed in and continues to do so as a black belt. It's my opinion that I am the best person to teach her. I do realize that this doesn't work for many. It does however work for us. The only problem I've had is that my other black belts get tired of losing to the instructor's kid in competition. gary pieratt ------------------------------ From: CHa6671447@aol.com Date: Wed, 24 Jan 2001 23:44:22 EST Subject: the_dojang: Re: The_Dojang-Digest V8 #36 In a message dated 1/18/01 1:17:17 AM Central Standard Time, the_dojang-owner@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com writes: << Donna S. posted the following: > >From: "critical care" > >Subject: the_dojang: Sparring a transvestite > > > >I would like opinions from fellow martial artist regarding a sensitive > >issue. Question # 1. Does "it" have the appendages of a man? If so, men's division. No if's and's or but's. Until "it" has the operation to make "it" completely a woman. Question #2. Why do we compete separately anyway? Donna G. (Since there is a Donna S. on this list.) >> OK, it was funny in the beginning, but enough is enough. Under no circumstance should a male be allowed to participate against women in a contact sport as such. Someone mentioned earlier that "this is not a perfect world." No, we are no in a perfect world, but as martial artists we strive for perfection. A part of that perfection is working toward being the best that we can be as the person that we are, not as a shadow of desire. I my opinion, it is much easier to improve the person that you are and know, than to improve a figment of a dream. I like Ray Terry's approach, the chromosomal make-up dictates who we are and where we stand. For those that want to argue hormonal treatment makes a difference. No, you just end up with a man with breasts and slightly less musculature than XY chromosomal make-up normally lends itself to. XX is female and XY is male regardless to psychological circumstance and presence of proper genitalia. I wish the guy luck and hopes that he finds himself or herself. chris jun tong mu sool ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Wed, 24 Jan 2001 22:44:38 PST Subject: the_dojang: . ------------------------------ End of The_Dojang-Digest V8 #56 ******************************* It's a great day for Taekwondo!
