Here I go AGAIN, sticking my neck out. But, Does it REALLY matter where GM Choi, Yong Sool learned what he knew? And if he was certified by Takeda or not? I think that what is important is: Do you enjoy what you are learning? Has it made a positive influence in your life? Do you respect your GM? Is he respected by his peers? (Does he affiliate with Peers?) I have met some very fine Hapkido people who have been a great influence on my attitude about Hapkido Certification. None of them are members of the same organization that I am affiliated with but we all share one common bond. A deep love for our art. GM Hal Whalen and Master Billy Lee are two such men. They spend every moment of their life eating, breathing, living for Hapkido. I think that we would all benefit by doing the same. It reminds me of a comment my daughter made when I was telling her about who invented baseball. She said, "I didn't know all that, I just knew that I love to play the game." ------------------------------ From: "Dunn, Danny J RASA" Date: Wed, 7 Feb 2001 11:14:53 -0600 Subject: the_dojang: RE: Expecting Alain, The was a really great post in DD # 88. These types of discussions really make the DD a worhtwhile endeavor. Mac, I have a lot more problem "hollowing" (same thing I have been doing Alain) than I did ten years ago too. The actual question was: What would the Korean equivalent of "Sai" be. I apologize for the misleading info...my instructor thought I meant Shinai - not Sai. CUT AND DON'T BE CUT Seminars was the name of the presentations I was asking about in an earlier post. These are announced by COLD STEEL, makers of the high end knives and apparently is conducted out of Ventura, California (800-255-4716). If anyone has had experience with one of these seminars I would interested in your feedback. The brochure that I have announces a seminar in Orlando 2-14 and 2-15) and one in California 2-24 &2-25) I have also mentioned a couple of resources by Dr. Yang on CHIN NA. If anyone is interested the titles are SHAOLIN CHIN NA and ANALYSIS OF SHAOLIN CHIN NA. I purchased my copies through the local Border's Books or Barnes and Noble's Books. They can also be purchased through YANG'S MARTIAL ARTS ASSN out of Jamaica Plain, Mass. Perhaps this is of some help. I've found that the older you get, the more difficult it is to "hollow" the midsection ;-) It seems to work more in the reverse for me.... Guess I better stay out of knife fights. >> Just in fun... A good friend of mine is 7 months pregnant but still training like a fiend. We made up a new attack for her because she is now limited to kicking quite low and needs to find different attacks to add to her repertoire. On behalf of slighter-to-average frame women, boxing (assuming they were not speaking of kickboxing) seems to be less of a self-defense bonus and more of a cardio/conditioning one. My arms are strong, however, I seriously doubt my ability to punch lights out. I can knock a pretty large person to the ground with my sidekick though...
