Question number three: Where are my black and stripe socks?< Answer one: Yes - but the GM has legal recourse also. Answer three: Your friend has your socks, there is little chance he will ever return them? I was not aware that there was an older way and a newer way and I was REALLY not aware that the older way was based on Chinese. I just say what my GM says to say. ;) On a somewhat related topic, I'm curious about the number of people on the list that can read Hangul. At what level of experience did you become interested in this? For those that teach, how many of your students can read it? Feel free to reply off-list. Curiosity killed the cat. I guess I haven't learned my lesson yet. ;) Shaun M. I recommend a 12 guage pump shotgun, short barrel and extended magizine, with very small shot for home defense, but she will have to learn how to use it and practice regularly. Danny Dunn <<<<<<<<< I was hoping someone might be able to help with this, I'm in the dark. I had a discussion over Christmas with my sister who wanted some form of defense for herself and her home. She wanted something non-lethal, and wasn't very interested in MA or self-defense classes, at least at this time. Does anyone know of a good pepper spray or similar chemical defense spray that they have tested and liked? Could you tell me what you liked about it, disadvantages, etc.? I will have to be next year. Perhaps working for BAM is not such a bad idea for the summer. I will get my fill of motorcycles, bikers, and wild times and be done with it. I do want to go to The Arnold Classic in the future. At least he is a definite every year. Chuck has switched to doing his KDOOA in Texas and then I never know when it is. Donna ------------------------------ From: RumNCoke220@aol.com Date: Fri, 9 Feb 2001 18:23:39 EST Subject: the_dojang: Re: Pepper Spray Regarding the comments people have made about pepper spray, I'd like to add that I don't believe people understand what pepper spray is for and what it really does to people. It's fairly common knowledge that developmentally disabled people frequently are not affected (or as affected as one would hope) by it. People who are frequently exposed to it, can build up a resistance. But these have been addressed. Pepper spray does not end confrontations. I think maybe a couple times have I seen pepper spray used at my work when it actually stopped the fight. More often than not we use it and then still have to pull the inmates apart and put them on the ground. My experience with it is that it is more of a "softening up" tool. We are trained to spray and to pivot and side step away from an attacker, because whether it stops him or not, he's still gonna get his hands on you, which means he's gonna get your own pepper spray on you. I wouldn't recommend it for home defense because you would be using it in an enclosed setting which means you are absolutely, positively going to be affected by the pepper spray yourself. It's just too random. When it works, it's like magic. When it doesn't work, it's terrible because you could have done something else, and now it's possibly getting in your face.
